I have been finding myself looking into Madison University's programs and it's utility in the career arena and found some most interesting individuals to have continued education with them to include:

A Senator for the US Virgin islands...

I hadn't noticed before, but they appear to offer doctorates again. It seems that reform didn't last long. They have also removed their list of "sample" lecturers.

At the moment, there are no names and no addresses, just a telephone number or two on the site. Hardly very encouraging for a site that some claimed was "up and coming".

  3. How did you find these people?

I've noticed on this board some users find graduates of certain schools...How do you find these? I would assume you do some type of google search?

I guess I should take Excelsior's Information Literacy Course :)

Should one assume that this is one and the same Madison University that is listed in the "Other Schools" (to be read: "Unaccredited") section of Bears' Guide?

Probably. However, it is conceivable that a legitimate "James Madison University" degree could be erroneously abbreviated as a "Madison University" degree. I doubt that is the case with most or all of these degrees, but it could happen.

The bulk of this 10 minute orginal search and posting via google reflects specializations in the areas in which Madison Univ. provides. ( thus reflecting that it is probably the Gulfport Miss. organization.

My interest was fired up from a postcard I received two days ago from a original interest last year. Definitely mislead with the assumption I would possibly consider their program.

I do find our educational system interesting as to where it is going with the lesser quality and accreditation issues etc.

Simply pissed off that there cannot be a tighter control over our educational system, although voluntary accreditation is allowed by law. If Madison Univ. was at least State approved to grant degrees , that would be something.

State approved schools are a huge issue still and with various States requiring RA, NA or US Dept of Educ. recognition, it is getting even more interesting.

    Matt,

Google is a quick and terrific way to search for stuff like this. Key is to add a - to words and I always like to use words to locate faculty for instance as:

    from-madison-university faculty

You get a great result connecting words. and phrases, especially looking into controversial schools being discussed.

I found them and pasted them in the original posting in less than 8 minutes.

    FUN!!

Hardly up and coming now...I think they took a backslide and are hurting now as they continue to seek to capture ways to increase revenues than to tough it out and seek a initial accreditation opportunity.

Doctorates are back... Same unrecognized World Association of College and Schools Nevada accreditor.

I'd say they are heading into deep diploma mill territory. Kind of like the Hamilton deal so spread in Wyoming. A little work, a paper etc. , but NO UTILITY..

Define "huge." State-approved unaccredited schools are a drop in the bucket, considering the thousands of accredited degree-granting institutions in the U.S.

There is almost no discussion of unaccredited schools outside this forum. For the vast majority of Americans, they either don't exist or are deemed diploma mills.

Finally, the impact of unaccredited schools on distance learning today is nothing compared to what it was 10 or 15 years ago, when many legitimate schools operated without accreditation. Now, those schools are--for the most part--either out of business or have become accredited. (You can't include schools that have ducked out to less-rigorous jurisdictions, like K-WU and Century.)

To most of the country--and nearly all of the education community--don't even bother with unaccredited schools. Who cares?

If I were your Rich, I would care...and obviously you do as you seek to monitor this site consistently and all discussions.

Doesnt it piss you off to have some who I have posted above to have a PhD after their name and can do it legally as the US cannot do anything about it. Sure... they can catch a occasional individual on CNN or some local new paper and make a story our of a teacher who got a raise with a Hamilton Phd or some other bogus crap, but reagardless... they can call themselves.. Doctor.

I know that has got to chap your hide tremendously.

    Please share...

Nope, it doesn't. I really don't care who calls themselves what. I have, on occasion, gone after some folks who make fradulent claims. But it's not the same as actually being emotional about it.

I've been impressed with many people who've obtained degrees from unaccredited schools.

Doing something legally and doing it legitimately are often two different things. I'm cool with the puffed shirts being taken down, but I'm not particularly motivated to do it myself. But if someone throws their fake degree in our collective faces, don't be surprised if I do something about it.
