I am searching for a completely online associates degree program in either Electrical or Electronics Engineering Technology and I arrive at Education Direct and Cleveland Institute of Electronics. May I ask if anyone has an previous experience as to which one of them would be more generous in accepting previous college credits? Thank you very much in advance.

Sorry, may I also know how would you compare Cleveland's AASEET program to Thomson ED's ASTEET? Any graduates from these programs here?

    Thanks a million!

    Hello,
I'm a Cleveland Institute of Electronics grad, I did their Network and Computer Technology program. They are a good school, good service. I think they are cheaper than Thompson, but I think Thompson has a nice online class system and a really nice playment plan. I would highly recommend Cleveland Institute if you are able to handle the $100 a month tution plan, it's a good school.

I am in my 3rd year/Semester 5 at World College/Cleveland. I found them very reasonable to give credits for prior studies.

I did the CIE AAS program years ago. At the time, there was no World College, so went on to Grantham College and got my BS.

CIE was a great experience for me. I went from zero experience to repairing cellphones when they first came out in 1994.

Thanks again Jawsh, Elecmac, and Dr Marion for the feedback ;-) I really appreciate it ;-)

May I ask if there are any Education Direct's AST degree graduates around?

I compared this course with Cleveland's AASEET and I noticed that despite the difference of focus (the former one on electrical stuff like motors, control etc. and the latter on applied electronics), a big difference is the "Reidence Lab" of which I find it interesting. I also noticed that Education Direct runs a telecommunications technican career diploma which is endorsed by NARTE (National Association of Radio and Telecommunications Engineers) while Cleveland is listed in the Part I IEEE REP List. May I ask if anyone knows what is the utlility of the NARTE endorsement? Thanks again!

    ED vs CIE

I took courses from both schools.

With Education Direct I completed 2 almost 3 semsters in there ASB applied computer science program. Earning 32 semester hours with 12 more sitting on the table waiting for me to take my proctored exam which will hopefully be soon.

With CIE I completed there Electronics Communication course & Electronics Technology w/ Microprosseror & Digital Labs course.

I would have to say I perferd CIE. Good delivery method and each lesson builds towards "THERE" Degree. The only issue I have with CIE is that they are only nationalyaccredited by DETC. So if you want to transfer the credits you earned to an other school your choices are limited. With ED there courses have been eveluated by ACE so its a little eaiser.

But it really ealy depend on what your ultimate goal is. If its to learn electronics and get your foot in the door somewhere CIE is the way to go.

If you want to advance your education further with a more respected RA school ED is the way to go

    32 semester hours from ED
    6 semester hours from UMUC
25 ACE credit recomendtions from Army/American Council on Education Transcript (AARTS)

    Diploma from CIE: Electronics Communications
Diploma from CIE: Electronics Technology w/Digital & microprocessor Lab
