Well, with all this sudden interest in Education Direct, and I must admit I'm one of the interested parties, I thought it was fascinating that ED now claims to have regional accreditation. http://www.educationdirect.com/05-accred_cert.html Now, I know practically nothing about what constitutes RA (I pretty much only know that it's the best type, and what one wants), it appears that the RA only applies to the high school and vocational technical programs. "Education Direct is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools for our high school and vocational technical programs. " Can someone with more knowledge chime in here to clarify for us pitifully unlearned folks? Etienne
The "Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools" is not the same as the regional accreditor, The Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Education Direct is not RA. If Im wrong, Im sure someone will point it out rather quickly.
Re: Re: ED is now RA? The Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools and the Commission on Higher Education of the Middles States Association are both divisions of the regional accreditor, Middle States Association. Their high school and vo-tech programs are RA. However, this statement does not tell us whether their associate's degrees are or are not RA.
Weird Now that you pointed that out, FC2008, I went back and actually read the link in full. You are correct. On that page they don't advertise their RA status. I was focusing on the link that got me there...Thomson Education Direct is Nationally and Regionally Accredited. on http://www.educationdirect.com/index.html (forgive me, I'm not too comp literate and know not how to create hyperlinks...) As for Ted's insight, thank you. On the webpage for each specific degree program, if you click on the tab for "Accreditation and certification," they don't mention anything new about RA. So maybe they aren't...phewy. Etienne
Re: Weird Etienne, you did a perfectly good job of creating a weblink to Thomson Education Direct. As for Thomson Eduction Direct (TED) being RA or no, not only does TED not mention their associate's programs having RA through MSA, but the CHE of MSA does not mention TED as an accredited or candidate institution on their webpage's directory of postsecondary institutions www.msche.org/institutions_directory.asp?txt .
ED was recently a cadidate for RA for their degree programs, but withdrew their candidacy from the MSA last month.
