    Hello all,

I am getting closer to finishing MS in Information Systems (6months away). I am interested in doing MS in Project Management. I looked at U of Wisconsin, Boston U and George Washington U, tuition is awfully high for me to afford.

Are there any other schools out there which have tution lower than these.

    Thanks

Western Carolina University has got to be the absolute best option -- at $115 a credit -- for their MPM. But you have to be a North Carolina resident to get that rate; otherwise, it's $455 a credit, which is not that much cheaper than the ones you mentioned.

Here are a few universities that offer a masters in PM via DL.

I don't know the specifics of each program, but it gives you a few more places to look.

Project Management M.B.A. American InterContinental University
    Project Management M.B.A. City University
    Project Management M.S. City University
Project Management M.S.M. Colorado Technical University Online
    Project Management MPM DeVry University
Project Management M.S.P.M. Florida Institute of Technology
Project Management M.P.M. Pennsylvania State University

Of course I'm sure my list will be lacking in comparison to when Ted H posts his list. :D

You may have a problem applying to the NPS unless you are a "Department of Defense (DoD)" or "other Federal Government" employee.

See the admissions page for more information.

    That is a surprise!

No surprise there, but the original poster never said they weren't Navy or government personnel and, besides, since this board does create an historical record, some Navy man (or woman) or G-man (or woman) in search of a project management degree may stumble accross this thread in the future, IF THE SEARCH FUNCTION WAS WORKING CORRECTLY, THAT IS.

Thanks for the information Ted and PHD2B.

I am not a Navy man.

My company will pick up the tuition tab for 6courses/year and anything more than $5200/year is considered as an income. So I would like not to go over that $5200, since I have already spent about $15,000 (from pocket) for the current MS.

Now I have realized that average tuition rate per course is around $1400-$1600.

Now my next question is which school you recommend in terms of name recognition. I am kind of more interested in Uof Wisconsin - Platteville (coz they offer 6 credits for PMP cert).

Is UofW is well recognized. I would also wel come inputs about U Boston.

    Again, thanks for your help.

    Regards
    Raj

I can't speak for UofW or U Boston, but I can tell you that my experience with Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) was excellent. The link for their DL programs is provided in my last sentence.

FIT's tuition $1245 per DL course, so this should fit within your budget.

I believe this University is a member of the Academic Common Market and if you are resident of most Southeastern states, you qualify for in-state tuition.

You certainly have plenty of options. One thing you might want to factor in is what (how many) credits that you have already earned will be able to transfer to these programs?

I believe that UW-Platteville offers allows to transfer up to 1/2 of the total program. They also have transfer agreements with a few UC Extensions. I believe those courses run from 600-900 per course.

Also, look at taking one more course per quarter if you think you can handle it. Many institutions have online MBA programs. Look for an in-state program, apply as a non-degree student and take a few non-PM courses that way.

    Good luck

I thought it was interesting to see Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) come out on the list of available programs.

I am on the faculty of NPS where I teach in the MBA, MSM, and EMBA programs.

Yes--we offer an in residence MBA with an emphasis on DoD program/project management, as well as a MSM in DoD program/project management through our distance learning program.

Yes--our students are military officers (Navy, Army, Air Force, Marines, as well as foreign officers and DoD civilians.

Of course--all of this may change since NPS is on the BRAC list.

South Carolina is one of the participating states and Western Carolina is one of the participating institutions. You might try asking the WCU Bursar's Office or Registrar's Office.

Some well-established faculty teach the UWP program. For example, Dr. Ginger Levin is a highly recognized speaker and well published within the PMP/PMI circles. Jerry Perone is one of the most experienced and capable risk management practitioners and instructor that I have encountered.

Many of the students in the program are seasoned project and program managers with top companies and government organizations. Accordingly, a lot of experience and knowledge is shared during group projects and related interaction.

The final answer is yes, the program/degree from UWP is well recognized. Additionally, the courses and program (shared with the engineering department) are ABET accredited. I'm aware of a number of students who have used the MS in Engineering/Project Management degree to also satisfy final requirements for their Professional Engineer licenses.

    Decision made UW-P

    Dear all,

Thank you very much for the valuable inputs.

I have decided to go with UW-Plattville.

    Reasons are:
    1. Can transfer upto 50% of the credits, so that I can finish the entire program in one year.
    2. Will award 6 credits for PMP certification.
    3. A traditional B&M school with online degrees.
    4. Excellent customer service (They never call you and bother you all the time like UoP, Strayer, AIU).
    5. And offcourse good feedback from the forum.

Will be starting MSPM in spring'2006.

Again, thank you very much DegreeInfo.com and all the members.

Wow, this sounds like a really intersting program.

I would LOVE to do a Cert in Entreprenurship and transfer it into the program leaving my with 15 PM credits to go and maybe throw in a few more courses.

    YES! This would be awesome.

    MS PM/Entr. type program.
