I spoke with a guy over at NCU today regarding their MBA with an emphasis on CJ and I haven't been this excited about going to school since I first enrolled in school for my BS.

Although I am not quite done with my BS yet, (about 4 months) I asked him if it would be possible to take a course as a non-degree student to get a feel for it and determine if the school is for me. He said yes.

I asked him that if I decided to become a degree student, will this course count towards my MBA, he said yes.

So far everything looks like a go. I may be enrolling in their accounting class first just to get the tough stuff out of the way. After that, it should be down hill.

    I can hardly wait.

I'd like to thank everyone for all the advice and I have to be honest, I would have never even heard of NCU if it had not been for this forum. I would have likely enrolled in U of Phoenix MBA or MSM degree.

As of yet I have not enrolled in NCU or been accepted, although I "have that feeling" if you know what I mean.:D

Cool! Let me know how it goes! I'm still thinking about doing the PhD in Business Administration/Electronic Commerce at Northcentral University someday ... maybe when I finish my MA in Military Studies/Civil War Studies at American Military University.

    Ncu and Touro

I started the summer semester at Touro for my PhD and just didn’t feel right about it. It wasn’t that I’m not accustomed to DL, I received my masters with an emphasis in online learning from Cal State Hayward. I still can’t put my finger on it, but I really wanted to go to NCU. They were approachable and friendly. Not one of the people has lost their patience with me. And, now get ready for this one, it felt like they wanted me to succeed versus just putting up the courses I should take and directing me towards them. I also like the idea of an integrated dissertation process (anyway, that is what I am calling it). The other thing that bugged me at Touro was the fact that you have to deal with five screens at to take a class; Horizon, Touro e-mail, Coursenet, registration, and the library. Could they make it any harder? As I sat down for my first class, this wave of anguish came over me, which was a very different feeling than the excitement I had at Hayward. Now, before you think I am just going on feelings, I had done all the research and Touro looked better on paper for me - but there was this disconnect. I dropped the class and I am now going to start my PhD in Education at NCU on September 1, 2005. So now, I am with Randell as an extouroite (I know that isn’t a word) and moving onto NCU.

Get you PhD in education (or EdD) and then you can petition Websters to make it a word. How cool is that :)

Congrats on finding out early in the process.

Are your first 4 classes tougher than MA?

    Hi Randell,
I was curious if you felt that the first four classes at NCU were harder, or the same as your Masters levels classes? I realize that your Masters was from Touro, but I am trying to figure out how many units to carry at the PhD level.

14th class? That must be about 42 credits. How close are you to starting your dissertation? How's AMU going, by the way?

Hi Ted and thanks for asking. :)

Yes, I am working on my final paper and powerpoint presentation for MGT5017 (Contemporary Policy Issues in Business). That would be my 14th course at NCU, but only the 2nd towards the Ph.D. I'll still have 15 credits to go before I can start the dissertation modules. 36 credits were for the MBA.

I can say MGT5017 has been quite a work-out. Fifteen 5-7 page APA style papers followed by a 15-20 page term paper and powerpoint presentation. I am very pleased with NCU.

I'm very excited to start the Military Studies/Civil War program at AMU. I start with CW500 on 9/2 and have all my books for the course. It looks like a lot of fun.

How are your studies going? Which courses are you taking?
Any AMU survival tips are always appreciated. Hope to see you around the campus there.

    Regards,

    Craig

I would say they are at the level of the last two TUI courses I took. They required about 10 hours a week.

I would sign up for one class at a time. You can complete them as quick as you can and start a new one each month. New classes start every month which is very flexible.

I'm presently taking CW 522: Reconstruction & Post-Civil War America with Barry Shollenberger. As mentioned before I'm a recent re-admittee. In Spring 2002, foolishly attempted to try 9 credits each at two different schools (AMU and CSUDH) and racked up a whole raft of incompletes which lapsed to F's so I will first have to re-take the CW 522 class and then CW 521: Civil War Society & Culture and CW 524: Civil War Cavalry. Once those are re-taken and actually passed this time, I will have 27 credits and then I will have to take 9 credits in an outside minor field (probably the three early naval history classes). Midterms are approaching and I'm keeping up with my reading. I'm a bit disappointed in myself, as I had all these fantasies about blowing through these three re-take classes in 4 to 8 weeks each instead of taking the usual 16 weeks. But I think I'll be okay. I've enjoyed American Military University's (www.apus.edu) MA in Civil War Studies quite thoroughly and I look forward to Northcentral University's (www.ncu.edu) PhD in Electronic Commerce.
