I know of Athabacccccc or whatever way it is spelled. But is there another school in New Brunswick - I remember reading a newspaper years ago with the mention of the program. I am asking out of pure cusiosity since their appears to be a great number of only DL school in the US but few in Canada - anyone know why? Does anyone know of any participants in the school!

Yes, you are talking about lansbridge university.

Bear in mind that this is a for profit virtual private university accredited in the US and doing business in Canada, I wouldn’t call it a Canadian University. It is about the same thing with the University of Phoenix Campus in Vancouver. If you are looking for a serious DL MBA program in Canada you should try the M.Asc in Management from University of Waterloo Uni or the Royal Roads MBA; both public funded universities with on campus programs.

Actually, only DL schools are more of an American phenomenon. Canada has Athabasca and the UK as Open U but generally DL opportunities in UK and commonwealth countries are provided by traditional universities.

Perhaps the University of New Brunswick in Saint John (UNBSJ)is the program you mean. They advertise in the Globe and Mail, but I'm not sure if they are completely DL.

  6. Well, not exactly. Lansbridge University has a partnership with the Boston-based Arthur D. Little School of Management to offer a joint eMBA/MSM degree. Arthur D. Little School of Management (ADL SOM) is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges Inc. to offer a Master of Science in Management. ADL SOM is seeking to have the joint degree program with Lansbridge University included in its accreditation. from http://www.lansbridge.com/emba_msm/adlsom.shtml

TeleEducation NB provides assistance to New Brunswick educators and course developers in the development and delivery of distance education programmes -- and has a lot of useful resources on its website (available in both French and English) -- http://teleeducation.nb.ca/

They offer synchronous courses held at community colleges and Community Access Centres in New Brunswick, as well as online courses -- see http://teleeducation.nb.ca/courses/

According to them, New Brunswick has the most online courses per capita in the world -- see http://nb.courses.telecampus.edu/ for a directory.

My recommendation for the time being would be the Executive MBA at Athabasca. There are some requirements for a few weekend schools and a summer school, but the rest of it is delivered online.
It may be that once other institutions have "fleshed out" their offerrings and have gained recognition or some form of accrediation, that these places could be considered, but until that happens, I would recommend against it.

I had correspondence with a City Director in Canada a few days ago, whose Duputy Fire Chief was claiming a Bachelor's degree from Pacific Western. The Director said Pacific Western must be legitimate because the Deputy Fire Chief used it to gain admission into a legitimate DL university in New Brunswick. Lansbridge must be that "university". It appears Lansbridge is duly authorized by the Government of New Brunswick - though I've never heard of Lansbridge U and it doesn't show up in Macleans listings.

Alas, Landsbridge is DETC-accredited. It's credibility immediately goes out the window with the President's staments opening webpage statement, excerpted as follows:

A note about Royal Roads: its DL MBA program requires three three-week residencies. This is probably a deal-breaker for most folks here.
