I was looking at Excelsiors MBA and found they accept 42 transfer credits. From the MBA FAQ's

    MBA FAQ

Q: Is there a limit on the amount of transfer credit that can apply to the MBA degree program?
A: Students can transfer in up to 42 credits in the MBA degree program. The only required courses that must be completed at Excelsior College are:

    BUS 501: Business Communications
    BUS 511: Strategy and Policy

I may strcuture my NCU classes to meet the Excelsior MBA requirement to double-dip and get an RA MBA at a bonus.

I don't know if this has been posted in the past. Is anyone in their MBA program?

I checked into this a while back and received information on their preferred provider network and taking courses at other schools for transfer in....

Student may also take courses through preferred providers. They have
    to be
enrolled in the Excelsior College MBA program in order to take these
courses. They need written permission from us to give to the providing
colleges in order to enroll in a course. Currently we have four
    colleges
and are working with others to expand the choices available four our
students: the University of Southern Queensland, University of North
Alabama, Iona College and Nichols College. If a student finds a course
    at
another regionally accredited university that they want to take for a
requirement, we will review an outline to see if we will accept it in
transfer. Stude! nts are required to take two courses with Excelsior
College; Organizational Communication and the capstone Strategy and
    Policy.

Also I discovered that they will take NA MBA courses in transfer if they are ACE evaluated at the graduate level.

so anyone know the cheapest way to complete this mba based on the maximum credit transfer?

I imagine load up on Amberton courses at $200 a credit, ACE evaluated credits at American Military University at $250 per credit, and Cameron University at $250 per credit. Just make sure the courses are exactly what Excelsior wants.

At 48 credits though, thats lots of extra dollars paid over the average 36 credit MBA.

    Grr...

You know, I got really, really excited when I saw this posting, since I was 3 classes shy of completing my MBA at UT-San Antonio. I'd love to complete it, but most MBA programs don't take so many transfer credits.

BUT, I don't think I could go through yet another Strategy course . . . I've already taken an incredibly difficult one for my MBA, and just completed another, covering most of the same topics, for my Ph.D. . . . the thought of going through it for the third time honestly puts me off of this.

    Drat, drat, drat.

Adrienne, I'm curious as to why you don't look at Western Governors?

    Sean,

Just looked. Hmm. What I wonder is what, exactly, constitutes their assessments. Anybody on here know?

    Cheers,
    Adrienne

P.S. Another thought -- if I would have to be assessed on Strategy, wouldn't that be going through it yet again? It doesn't look like they accept graduate transfer credits. Many thanks on the suggestion, though.

The woman I've spoken with at WGU said that it is a written examination for each sub-domain. The domains are listed here.

    Sean,

I checked those out. Did she say whether the written exams are for each subdomain, or just one biggie for each domain?

Maybe this is a really stupid mental block on my part (it'll probably tell you how much I loathed having to take this course twice), but it still would probably irk me to have to test out of a subject that I've already taken, twice, with capstone research papers (over 150 pages of written work, together), for which I got A's in both.

    Cheers,
    Adrienne

She did mention, as I recall, that applicable credits from accredited institutions can be used to fulfill subdomain or domain requirements. So if you have a lot of generic MBA credits, you are likely already very close. If you call WGU, ask for Jan Manning. She is the sole admissions representative. I think she is at [email protected].

I am looking at this as a way to get my MBA. It's very reasonably priced, and they have an MBA in IT Management that looks like an interesting option for my next step. I like the independent, self paced aspect of the whole setup.

    Cheers, Sean!

I'll contact Jan and see if my MBA credits would transfer. If so, then I would be very close. I had gotten the impression from their website that they only took transfer credits at the undergrad level.

I, too, like the independent nature of it, since I'm already doing classes now (by doing the assessments, I could probably swing that concurrently with my Ph.D. work, I'd think). I just didn't want to have to prove, again, my mastery of a subject I've already proven twice!

Well, it doesn't hurt to inquire, anyway, so will do so. Will update on this.

    Cheers,
    Adrienne

I apologize that I didn't notice that you were in the UAE. I think that there are some geographical limitations, but if you are an American citizen working abroad, they may be able to accomodate you. I will look forward to hearing what you learn.

Well, can't hurt to see what they say!

University of Southern Queensland, a preferred provider? Excelsior can do better. If the business course is from an RA school and identical to the excelsior college MBA course title, they should not be picky.

What is the Excelsior's general criteria for course acceptance. Is it possible for excelsior college to refuse a harvard graduate management course and accept an equivalent course from fort hays state university?

They could also do a lot worse.
USQ is a ver respected - admittedly rather new in terms of academic history - Australian institution. It's state approved and accredited, and won several prizes for their distance education programs.
Compared to many, many US programs and universities, I would say USQ is definetely on a very, very high level.

'Preferred provider' results from both institutions, Excelsior and USQ, being partner institutions. That's why.

Yes. "Preferred provider" meaning "partnership" is very obvious to me. I graduated from excelsior college and have broad work experience (not teaching) in the field of distance education.

The quality of education at USQ is not what I am emphasizing. It is accredited and approved, I understand. It is the number of potentional academic partnerships that excelsior can establish in the United States. As an alumni I believe that excelsior has potential to do more and expand further by partnering with american universities and academic institutions abroad.

I was a graduate student at the University of Southern Queensland. So I am familiar with USQ. As a student of culture, I am interested in international distance education and impressed with their instructional design model. After I complete my masters at NCU, I am planning on continuing my previous enrollment at USQ.

Do I believe USQ is reputable, yes. Is the university on a very high level with regionals and nationals in the US. That depends on what "high level" means to you. What american universities are you benchmarking with USQ? Harvard, Barrington University, Florida State U, Andrew Jackson U.

Anyone and organization can give an award. The University I work in has received tiny/big awards and prizes for certain accomplishments. That does not impress me knowing the many unethical behaviors and decisions that occur at the University. However, there are strengths that overshadow their weaknesses.

I would dare to say that USQ can for sure be compared to any 2nd tier US university, to put it that way.

Do you mean that you would get the NCU PhD degree and then recycle these same courses into the Excelsior program. Essentially, you'd have an MBA in two courses?

I did some transfers in the B & M world and credits that had been included as part of a degree program were not transferable. I'd check on this because this is pretty standard.

If it works however, that's a great idea because it's an RA school to RA school gig. Folks have mentioned going cheap by doing a non-RA school first, but after all, but employers will see the transcripts. I guess it depends on degree purpose.

Well. I'll take a wild guess. If I were to place USQ with universities ranked by usnews, I would classify USQ as a third or fourth tier university. Is the DETC and ISO accredited university comparable to a regionally accredited washington state university, who knows. Mabye there are programs at USQ that are up to "1st tier standard". Then again, that is also subject to interprepation. I wonder if a qualitative and guantitative research comparing Australian and American universities has been published by a university or other non-profit corporations. Well, there are plenty of posts discussing this and I respect your opinions. So on to other topics for me :).
