    Hi:

Just want to double check something. I am looking at a print out of a page I downloaded from the COSC website. The link is "Exams Accepted by Charter Oak State College". It lists the Analyzing and Interpreting Lit. CLEP as being worth 3 credits. I thought this CLEP was worth 6 credits? Or is it that COSC will only give 3 credits? Please advise.

Either way, I am happy if it is only 3 credits, however, I would be much happier if it was a typo and they really mean 6 :).

    Please advise,

    Thanks,

    Abner :)

    I got three for it.

The recommended award is six credits, which I got, but schools are under no obligation to go by the credit recommendations. Or accept the exam at all, for that matter.

    Thanks for the input!

    Thanks Randell and Bruce!

It sounds like COSC grants 3 credits, that's ok. I am just glad I took the test, it was the cheapest three credits I have ever received.

    Thanks once again,

    Abner,

I got 6 but took it 2 years ago though so it may have changed. You might verify with school though.

Just to clarify...I took it several years ago (2000) and COSC gave me 3 credits for it in December 2002.

    Hi Randall,

It seems to have changed a few times . Sometime before I took it I was sure it was 3 but on a revised exam sheet just before I took it was 6. A few other exams fluctuated between L & I for credit level.

That's odd, I got six for it, and that was earlier this year.

Perhaps it depends on the major?

My major was BIS and they gave me 6 credits for it in 2003.

Oops I meant level B & I ! There is no mention of major altering credit number.

    Could be

Very strange, maybe it does depend on the major. I am little leary to e-mail because I have been bombarding them with questions, even though I am not enrolled with them yet. As pleasant as they are, I think it is to the point that they want me to enroll before anwering anymore questions.

    Thanks to everybody,

    Abner :)

P.S. My B.A. would be in liberal studies with a concentration in Spanish.

I called them so many times before enrolling, they recognized my voice. They were always profession and pleasent.

    Hello Abner,
Is this a Clep that could be passed cold?

I passed it, almost aced it as a matter of fact, with no formal preparation whatsoever. I will say that I've been a voracious reader since I first learned to read.

I guess that would depend on how familiar you are with literature. I studied from REA study guide and passed fairly easily. I studied for all 16 CLEPS I passed and found it a waste of my time not to because I did manage to fail a few. Generally studied through Barron's EZ-101 series or Cliff notes or often through encyclopedia.

Because they weren't timed I prefered DANTES exams and wish I could have taken more. But they weren't available locally here in San Diego until recently (UOP)for nonenrolled students.

Much thanks BTW to Laurie Miller's exam study advice.

    Probably

    Hi bcegales:

From what I know about you, you are pretty much an expert test taker. I didn't really even study for this test, of course I barely passed with a 51. I think the key is to mark the real difficult questions and review them later when you are done, rather than spending a lot of time on a particular question. I had about 15 minutes left at the end, then I went back and answered the questions I had marked (about 15).

    Take care,

    Abner :)

    Abner,

But why not study? This is what I do not understand concerning test takers. Why take exam w/ no preparation? Why waste time/money on the offhand chance you fail? Without some study I know I would have failed a number of the 22 exams I took.

Although I enjoy American history I still studied for CLEP AH 1&2 w/ Barron's EZ 101. I never wanted to take a chance and despite that did fail a few CLEPS although retook and passed them save one.
Granted CLEPS/DANTES generally are not that tough if prepared but you never know.

    True

    Hi Dan,

Of course, I would advise anyone to study rather than not. In this case, I chose not to and won. Your point is well taken, however.

    Take care,

    Abner

The only CLEP I didn't study for was the Anaylizing Lit. I didn't see a way to study for it. If you are reading a poem and someone ask what the meaning of a certain line is you either get it or you don't. The test really doesn't cover facts or who wrote which literary piece. It's all about reading comprehension.

This is one of the easiest CLEPs going though.
