APUS has a degree that seems ideal for my interests. It's an MPH with a concentration in Environmental Health Management.

I'm working on the eCornell HR series and am interested in specializing in Environmental/Safety after I take the PHR test.

Does this sound like a viable way to get into HR Safety or are there other programs? I like the way the APUS degree program is set up as well as the fact that it will eventually probably be RA.

    Shandon,

I just recently enrolled in the BS in Public Health at APUS. I was also concerned about the utility of the MPH offered by APUS, since that will be my next step after I receive my BS. I sent an inquiry to APUS regarding this topic (see bottom of this post) and I received the following response back from them. I hope this is helpful! Personally, I've decided to at least pursue the BPH at APUS. This will take a couple of years and hopefully by that point APUS will have obtained full RA status (and hopefully CEPH too!).

    Dear Tom,

Thank you for you recent email concerning regional accreditation and CEPH accreditation for our MPH program. I also thank you for your patience as we researched your questions. Also, let me introduce myself as your Student Service Specialist.

Getting into a particular MPH program after finishing your Bachelor's degree with AMU, really depends upon which MPH programs you are looking into. Each program will have specific requirements and/or suggestions concerning Bachelor's and other qualifications to get into their program. Unfortunately, I do not have information on specific MPH programs. You may want to research specific programs you are considering and then contact those schools with this question.

As to our MPH program and accreditation. Our Academics Department understands the importance of CEPH accreditation to our program's success. AMU is currently in candidacy status for regional accreditation. Our next site visit for regional accreditation will be in early 2006. After that time, probably in late 2006, the Academics Department plans to have the MPH program reviewed for accreditation with CEPH. They are currently researching the application and review process. It is unclear at this point as to how long the CEPH accreditation process could take.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Subject: Question Re: APUS BS in Public Health

Hi - I just enrolled in the APUS BS in Public Health program. I have a question that I'm hoping you can answer. If I continue with my studies and obtain a BS in Public Health from your University, what are my chances of being accepted into a CEPH (Council on Education for Public Health) MPH program? I understand that APUS offers an MPH degree, however it is neither regionally accredited nor CEPH accredited. Of course, by the time I graduate with a BS, APUS may have already obtained full RA status.

My last question is then - does the APUS Master in Public Health program plan on pursuing CEPH accreditation?

Many thanks in advance for you assitance with my questions!

    Regards,

    Tom
