    Sir/Ma
I am planning on enrolling in a school called "VANCOUVER UNIVERSITY COLLEGES WORLD WIDE" located in Vancouver Canada. My dilema is that I cannot assertain their accreditation status, and or their legitimacy or their legalty to grant a degree as per Canadian Laws. Their website is www.vca.bc.ca please help with any usefull info because I am concerned about falling victim to a diploma mill. please reply via [email protected]
    Thanks.
    Tim Ade.

They probably are not accredited since the majority of Universities in Canada are not accredited... however if you want to check their legitimacy go to the province of British Columbia web-site and see if they are listed as a legitimate university... you can also check the government of Canada web-site.

    PS... "sounds" like a mill.

    Stay Away!!!!!

When I enquired about the status of this university to the ministry of British Colombia, the minister himself sent me a letter telling that this operation is not recognized by the ministry. This seems to be a one-man operation (DR. Raymond Rodgers). When I called to the university he is the one that answered the phone, so he seems to be the only person running the whole thing. The university is not listed in the association of universities and colleges of Canada (www.aucc.ca) but it is listed as one of the illegal degrees in the state of Oregon ( http://www.osac.state.or.us/oda/unaccredited.html ). The website is very odd and in case you didn’t notice is attached to a free community service website (A university that doesn’t have its own domain can’t be very serious).

In few words a degree from this wonderful institution won’t be recognized in the whole Canadian territory.

Membership in the association of colleges and universities of Canada is the equivalent RA in Canada.

That is not true... ACUC is not an accreditation body and some schools which are not members of ACUC are legitimate universities which are equivalent to RA.

"Canada has no formal system of institutional accreditation. Membership in AUCC held in conjunction with a provincial charter may be accepted in lieu of institutional accreditation. Graduate programs and professional schools such as law, nursing, medicine and engineering have rigorous discipline-specific accreditation procedures."

Check your link again, the above URL doesn't pull up a college website, it's the Vancouver Community Network website.

    The complete link is: http://www.vcn.bc.ca/wunicols/

The problem is that this wonderful university's website is attached to the free community website of Vancouver

By the way, if you notice, the university is not listed in the root link www.vcn.bc.ca in the education section. I wonder why?

    Hi, group!

Well, I know that my current college, Winfield College in Vancouver, British Columbia, is not a member of AUCC. However, this college is recognized by the government of British Columbia, so it is "accredited" by US standards. Certainly, this college only offers certificates and diplomas; could it be that this is a limitation to become a member of AUCC?

    Best regards,

Sorry, it is listed, but not in the university section, is in the Educational Organizations section which tells you that the vancouver community itself doesn't consider it a university.

P.S.: I can see that Technical University of British Columbia, a public university offering degrees and recognized by the government of British Columbia, is not a member of AUCC.

The main limitation is the “not-for-profit” aspect (http://www.aucc.ca/en/aboutindex.html) , at the college level there are many legit institutions that are for profit but can’t be member because of this, may be this is the case of your college, notice that there is an equivalent association for community colleges.

P.P.S.: By the way, it appears that
Technical University of British Columbia is now offering classes or perhaps entire degrees via distance learning.

Because this is a new institution, it will take some time to add it to the aucc.

    Hi, RFValve!

Yes, the "not-for-profit" aspect could be the reason for its non-listing.

P.S.: Unfortunately, I couldn't find Winfield College in the CC association. Actually, it could be that Winfield College resembles more a technical college than a community college.

    Hi, there!

    Good to know!

P.S.: Are there for-profit universities in Canada? If so, then they cannot be included.
