    Hi Team,

My brother has done B.E Mechanical (under Graduate ) and has got GRE score of 850 ( 350 in Verbal and 500 in Quantitative).

I would like to know if he can get admission to Master of Science into any of US universities. And how to go about it.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Regards,

At least in Computer Science, when a university requires you to take the GRE, the generally require at least a 1000. That's not to say that if you brother has a stellar GPA from a top school that a program might not accept him; however, if it were me I would:

    1) Use on of the commercially available classes or self-study programs to prepare for the GRE and then retake it and try for a score in excess of 1000.

    or

    2) Look for a program that doesn't require the GRE.

Though 1000 is pretty "standard" as GRE score requirements go, many schools use a formula in which a high GPA can balance a low GRE (or vice versa). If your brother doesn't like his GRE score, he can always retake it. He might also include in his grad school apps at least one school that doesn't require the GRE as his "safe school" application.

When applying to grad school, it is always advisable to apply to one high-prestige school (just to see if you could've gotten in), one "safe school" (just in case all else goes wrong), and a few mid-range schools that are more or less realistic options given your academic record.
