What I find interesting about the article is that Shaq wants to be an undercover cop. It is kind of hard to work the beat as an undercover "cop" when one is 7' 2" 325 lbs.


"I want to go to the Police Academy. I want to actually go out and make a couple of arrests and I want to go undercover" (O'Neal, 2005).

 

I certainly wouldn't mind Shaq backing me up at a bar fight.

I think when he meant "undercover", Shaq was referring to working in a plainclothes capacity, like in the Drug Unit, Vice, etc.

When I worked in the Drug Unit, there was no way I could be truly "undercover", since the area I worked had a primarily black population. I would have been either laughed at, or killed. However, there is more to undercover than pretending to be a bad guy. I spent many, many hours in vacant apartments, monitoring drug dealers, watching the transactions, then relaying the information to ground units to make the arrest.

That might be more suited to Shaq, since he would be hounded by fans if he worked in uniform, out in the public.
