Inside scoop on Excelsior?

I posted these questions here (along with several others) some time ago but since these particular ones didn't get answered I thought I would post them by themselves.

I am looking into enrolling at Excelsior's BST program. Right now I'm waiting for my last transcript so I can send it all in and have them evaluate which credits are applicable. I would like to hear from somebody who has recently been or is currently enrolled there. Specifically I am interested in knowing how the classes are delivered (i.e. mailed reading, VHS taped lectures, video streaming, etc.) and how the testing is done (Is there one test per class or several along the way? Do you just find a local school to proctor the exams or are they online?).

I can't find anything detailed on the website about these topics. I may not be looking in the right place though.

    Thanks in advance,

    Daniel Alexander

One other thing I just noticed while looking at the site. There is a "Credit Review Service" which is $210 dollars and then under the "Self-Review Assessment" section it states:

"The Self-Review Assessment option is available for all Excelsior College degree programs except the bachelor's degree programs in the School of Technology and Engineering. Because of the complexity of requirements in those programs, we suggest you consider obtaining a low-cost assessment via our no-obligation Undergraduate Application for Admission."

When I click on that link it says that the Admissions Application is only $40 and:

"You will hear back from us with your admissions decision and a summary of how your credits will apply to your degree within two weeks."

So my question is why should I spend $210 when I can get the same thing for $40? Am I missing something?

    Sincerely,

    Daniel Alexander

You won't find any information about courses because Excelsior doesn't offer any. It is purely an assessment college. They do have study packages for some of the tests in their exam program, but otherwise all credit must be either transferred in from other (RA) schools, or earned through testing, portfolio, or some other assessment of credentials.

Well they make that about as clear as mud. [IMG]

How can a school get regional and ABET accredited for something they don't even teach? What a sweet deal that must be for them.

Looks like I may have to fall back to my second choice of RIT. They would be my first choice if it wasn't for the residency requirement for labs (and the cost). I'm going to blow the companies budget clean out of the water with that one. [IMG]

"company's" even. I know that this UBB script is capable of letting you edit your own posts. Anybody know why it's disabled?

It is my understanding that if you have the $210 evaluation done and decide to enroll a percentage of these dollars can then be applied towards your fees. You may want to check with the College on this but I would bet this is still the case?
