    Hello again everyone!
Well, my son is now 8 months old and I have no further excuses for not going for a research doctorate. Here goes.....
    1. I would like a UK university as my MBA is from Scotland and I
understand they are a bit cheaper than in the US.
    2. Prefer a research only situation, I did take a research methods
    course to get the mba.
    3. Very, very little on-campus time required, preferably none!
    4. As inexpensive as possible as I am paying for it.

Since I work in club management and my mba is in this field, I wish to structure my research around clubs with a focus on org. behavior. Specifically, I want to investigate the pros/cons of the management/member (owner) relationship as I feel it is very unique in the world of business. The owners are also the consumers and this presents some challenges!!

Anyway, I look forward to the info. I know that you will not let me down....
    thanks and best regards, John

There are several threads devoted to this topic. I don't know of a UK university without at least some residency requirement for the DBA or PhD in Business. The top AACSB-accredited DL ones in the UK are:

    Henley - DBA
    Aston - DBA or PhD
    Manchester - DBA

They also require some residencies, so you'll have to look into that yourself or ask someone more knowledgeable than me on this forum. Each of those are truly world-class schools, but sadly not well-known in the U.S. (presuming that's where you're from).

I also think Edinburgh offers a doctorate via distance (BTW, is that where you got your MBA?) but you'll have to confirm with Dr. Kennedy, he's always willing to help with great advice.

Let me suggest that if "affordable" is among your criteria, you may wish to look at Australian and South African research docs. It will be up to you to find out if anything from amongst the following array has a prof that will let you do your doc in club management.

    Thanks guys

    I appreciate your help.
To answer a question, I graduated from Queen Margaret University College, not EBS. Heriot-Watt was the first dl MBA that I discovered via John Bear's book and also from a club member who wrote their marketing module. I really was all set to start, but found a more-specific mba at QMUC. Additionally, it was a bit cheaper as well!!

I will further consider the SA universities, but given the difficulty of communication, I thought it best to concentrate in the UK. However, looking at the pricing, I may still choose the SA route.

    cheers, John
