    Hello Everyone,

If you're a student or graduate from a DETC school I would encourage your school to become member for the DETC Honor Society.

My school (Columbia Southern University) was not a member, but after talking with the administration they are submitting their application for membership. This is another outlet to honor academic excellence and integrity.

Listed below is information about the DETC Honor Society.

    Honor Society

The Distance Education and Training Council sponsors an honor society called the "Delta Epsilon Tau International Honor Society for Distance Learning." An institution must be accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council to be eligible to establish a Chapter in this Honor Society.

    DET Chapters
The following DETC institutions successfully established Chapters of the Delta Epsilon Tau Honor Society:

    • American College of Computer and Information Sciences (Alpha of Alabama)
    • American Health Science University (Beta of Colorado)
    • American Public University System (Alpha of West Virginia)
    • Aspen University (Alpha of Colorado)
    • Atlantic University (Beta of Virginia)
    • Australasian College of Health Sciences (Alpha of Oregon)
    • California Coast University (Gamma of California)
    • California College for Health Sciences (Alpha of California)
    • California National University for Advanced Studies (Beta of California)
    • Catholic Distance University (Alpha of Virginia)
    • College for Professional Studies (Alpha of Florida)
    • College of the Humanities & Sciences (Alpha of Arizona)
    • Global University (Alpha of Missouri)
    • Grantham University (Beta of Louisiana)
    • Sonoran Desert Institute (Beta of Arizona)
    • University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences (Beta of Florida)

To recognize the academic achievements of students who study at a distance, DETC's Board of Trustees in cooperation with Christopher Davis, President of the Alpha Beta Kappa National Honor Society, established the Delta Epsilon Tau International Honor Society (DET) in 1997.

“The creation of this International Honor Society,” according to Michael Lambert, DETC Executive Director, “publicly demonstrates that distance study is truly a viable educational option. In addition, it serves to inspire both students and instructors in the distance study community. It is the "Mark of Distinction" for an institution to be awarded a Chapter of the Delta Epsilon Tau Honor Society.”

All recognition material are customized and are presented and distributed to Chapters by the Delta Epsilon Tau International Society. Each Honor graduate receives:

    • Membership Certificate
    • Honor Society Gold Key
    • Congratulatory Letter
    • Honor Society Narrative and Overview
    • Reference Letters (upon request)

The emblems, a gold key or badge, may be worn with pride by those who have been elected to membership. It bears the Greek letter D.E.T., the Flaming Torch and two of the finest words in any language - Integrity and Excellence.

As most institutions and programs are dramatically unique, each Chapter's selection committee will be permitted to determine its own basic selection criteria. This criterion, once established, must be submitted in writing to the Delta Epsilon Tau International Honor Society. In addition, each inductee is required to sign an honor code and publicity release form. This code, which each institution will keep on file, will document that the student has:

    • Completed his/her own work, independently.
    • Successfully graduated; and maintained the minimum GPA as determined by the Chapter.

For more information, please write to Christopher Davis, President, Delta Epsilon Tau, Route 3, 521 Bird Haven Drive, Millville, DE 19970 or call (302) 541-0450. To email DET, send all questions or concerns to [email protected].

Is there a Delta Epsilon Tau web page that is not tied to a specific school chapter?

    Seems like an interesting idea....
