Significant Research Journals

In a previous post I had asked someone what the significant research journals were in the accounting field. My question was answered somewhat, but I finally found this list that I received at a previous phd conference that lists the significant research journals in accounting, finance, marketing, management, and information systems. So if someone is interested in the information I will post them all. Just let me know.

 

If I may make a suggestion, post them now. That way, when someone does a search of the archives it will turn up among the resulting postings. Don't wait.

I've actually wondered about this myself. My present position is the first place where I've had to make practical use of law journals. It seems to me that the significance of a law journal stems from two things: 1) the prestige of the law school that publishes it and 2) the particular area that the journal covers.

For instance, if you should have a question on state habeas corpus practice in civil cases, and you can find a fairly recent Harvard or Yale Law Journal article on that subject, that article will carry some weight. A similar article from, say, Denver University will also carry weight, but likely not so much.

However, if you have a question about state habeas practice in Montana law, the Montana Law Journal is the place to go IF anybody up there has published anything on the subject.

Similarly, if the subject matter is itself very specialized, such as land use and zoning as constitutional takings, you couldn't do better than the Urban Law Journal from the University of Missouri-Kansas City law school.

 

Management journal listing

I just thought I'd add this in for interest. This is the journal listing as prepared by the faculty in the Management Dept. at UT - San Antonio; quite comprehensive, and I think the rankings are useful. IIRC, they use this list to assign points for tenure purposes. Sorry I don't have a similar one for accounting!
