Hello All -- Long-time lurker, first-time poster.... Does anyone know of any creative writing programs that are offered online, particularly MFA or BFA programs? I have looked in distance-learning guides and have found surprisingly few offerings. Thanks in advance! Best wishes.....
MFA NU offers an MFA in creative writing entirely online. Most others require two residencies per year. Bennington Vermont College Warren Wilson College come to mind as well as the one in which I am enrolled... Queens University of Charlotte's MFA program http://www.queens.edu/graduate/programs/creative_writing.asp I looked around and found this one to be my favorite. I'm a year into the program and have now worked intensively with writers like David Payne, Jane Alison and Ashley Warlick. Worth the money and the residencies are like very productive summer camp sessions. It's a fun and rewarding program.
Thanks for the quick and thoughtful reply -- I assume NU refers to National U. in California.... I'm glad you've found such a good fit in your MFA program -- it sounds terrific. Thanks again!
same back at cha Good luck to you as well. And let me know if you decide to apply to Queens. We are a really crazy, non-pretentious (except for me jk) group of adult writers. If you like that kind of atmosphere, you'll love Queens. No BS here at all. Dan B
Greeting, new member! Goddard College (www.goddard.edu) and Goucher College (www.goucher.edu) both offer the MFA in Creative Writing.
Here ya go... This is probably the most helpful site around for writing programs. http://www.awpwriter.org/membership/schools/index.htm Hope it moves you along the road. Dan B
Antioch University Los Angeles (www.antiochla.edu) has an MFA program with, I think, two short residencies each year at their Culver City campus (on the west side of LA). Regards, GME
Thanks to all! Thank you to all of you for your thoughtful and quick replies -- I really appreciate it!
Antioch Good call, Antioch has such a great program. They also have a one semester, post-MFA certificate in the teaching of creative writing. All Distance, one quick residency for graduation. (?) And, I was so very stoked, until I learned that they don't allow financial aid to pay for the program for folks (Like me, Queens U. of Charlotte) who were not awarded their MFA from Antioch. This must an institutional deal. Their exists no regulation like that in the fed. Title IV literature that I know of. Hope they iron it out. I really want to do THAT next fall. Dan B
