Here's something kind of interesting, stumbled upon while Googling. Dunno if there have already been threads about it.

It's an Ireland-based organization called the International Network of Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education. They have an annotated members directory that's kinda enlightening. It lists accreditors and/or government regulators for many different nations, with links. If you click 'details' on the right, you get an extensive description of what each one does, who they do it to, how they do it, who funds them, their size, and more.

I looked at what they had for the United States and found the regional accreditors and several (by no means all) US DoEd/CHEA specialized accreditors, including DETC and TRACS. No phony accreditors.

But I can't comment on what's listed for most of the other countries. Important bodies may be missing, while some tangential bodies are listed. It's probably a partial picture, but it does give some idea what many other countries are up to and it might provide some places to start making inquiries when international mystery schools appear.

    There's nothing listed for Liberia.

AUQA here in Australia is a regular contributor to INQAAHE conferences and seminars. I submitted an abstract to an INQAAHE conference in New Zealand some time back, but have not heard back yet. A good networking agency which tries to centralise quality assurance agencies. It has more of a quality assurance as opposed to accreditation focus.

    Cheers,

    George
