The school where I teach is considering offering a criminal justice class. Since I have a Social Science teaching credential, this is a course I am interested in teacing at the high school level. My knowledge of the U.S. Constitution is excellent, but I need a better understanding of the criminal justice system. Are there any basic or introductory courses available that members of this board could recommend?

You might send a PM (private message) to Bruce using your UCP (user control panel). He's one of the administrators plus he's got a few cop degrees under his belt. And he's exceedingly tolerant of certain people who make too many snarky comments about cops in the political discussions. An all-around nice guy he is.

    misty,

You might want to take a look at Troy University and Fort Hays State University. Troy's tuition for undergrad online courses is $150 per semester hour, while FHSU's tuition is $122 per semester hour.

Troy University's Florida & Western Region is offering an introductory CJ course online in the upcoming term (5/23-7/31), you can go to http://fwr.troy.edu/ for more information. Click on "Class Schedules-Distance Learning" and you should be able to check out the syllabus.

FHSU also offers an introductory CJ course online, go to www.fhsu.edu and click on "Virtual College" for more info. You'll probably have to look under "Justice Studies" to see FHSU's criminal justice course offerings. FHSU's upcoming summer term runs from June 7-July 29.

Criminal Justice Today by Frank Schmalleger

If you are interested, I have a book that I do not need anymore; it is “Criminal Justice Today” by Frank Schmallager. It is the 1991 edition used for the introduction course in criminal justice from the distance education department of the University of Alabama. If you are willing to pay the exact postage cost (with no extra charge), sent me a private message showing your town and State in order for me to provide you with the postage cost (I must go to the post office to figure that out – I only need your Town and State – It is not necessary to have your complete address unless you want the book.)

I am not in the business of selling books or anything else but I do not need that book anymore and it may help you.
