CSUDH is a good school. There's lots of information about it on this site. You can access it easiest by using the search function at the top of the page. Otherwise, I believe that there are DL MPA programs available at the following schools:
    CSU - Northridge
    Central Michigan U
    Florida Inst of Tech
    Valdosta State U
    Good luck in your search.

One vote for Florida Inst of Tech

I don't know about the other schools, but I can vouch for Florida Tech. Florida Tech is an excellent school and they do in fact offer a DL MPA. See the link below.

Cal State Dominguez Hills has been in the distance learning business for many years and has done so quite succesfully. They have had many, many satisfied graduates, including some who post here on Degreeinfo and Dr. Marina Bear (wife of Dr. John Bear).

I would predict that you would be happy at CSUDH, although the other schools in Jack's list are also good.

I own property in the Melbourne area and feel the same. I visited the campus a few times and was impressed with the faculty I spoke with.

    Just my opinion

The MPA program is pretty good. I am taking the MBA program and find it interesting. A lot tougher than I thought. I think it is one of the better buys for the money.

One of the ten best. And I believe that's from U. S. News & World Report.

This is all good to read. Thanks. CSUDH is mentioned on bain4weeks.com, but I didn't see any reviews about it's programs. Thanks everybody who replied.

I know most Graduate Schools require some type of entrance exam (i.e. the GRE), but I didn't see where CSUDH required it for entrance. Is this correct? How would this program compare to schools that require an entrance exam? Or does it matter much? Also, how is CSUDH's online format? Have you had any problems?

    Thanks, SMALLS

    SMALLS,

I don't think the fact that CSUDH does not require an entrance exam makes it any lesser of a school versus one that does require an entrance exam. From the posts I've seen previously it appears that CSUDH has a very good reputation overall and their distance programs are highly respected.

On another note, Troy University, the University of Nebraska-Omaha, and Upper Iowa University also offer online MPA degrees. Both Troy and UNO's programs are less expensive than the UIU program. I'm just about finished with my MPA at Troy and highly recommend it to others interested in the field. The program consists of 12 courses (9 core classes) and several available concentrations. According to the MPA director at Troy, they well be applying for NASPAA accreditation in the near future. Troy actually hosted the most recent "Teaching Public Administration" conference in Ft. Walton Beach, FL and they appear to be attempting to solidify their program's reputation in the field. Troy offers 8 online graduate degree programs and they utilize the Blackboard platform, which has worked out just fine for me.

If you're looking for a highly ranked MPA program, check out the University of Nebraska-Omaha. They are NASPAA-accredited and ranked number 26 overall by U.S. News & World Report in the Public Affairs category and have very reasonable tuition rates. They only offer two concentrations online however, I believe one is in public management and the other has to do with aviation management. Troy requires the GRE or MAT for admission, unless you have already completed a master's degree, and UNO does not require an entrance examination.

I chose Troy over UNO because of the 10-week terms (5 per year) at Troy versus the traditional semesters at UNO. Plus Troy offers almost all of the core courses and numerous concentration courses every term, while UNO does not offer as many classes for the degree each semester. I had to withdraw from a course at Troy due to family commitments and was able to pick up the class the very next term. That would have been a problem at UNO as the same course may not be offered for 2 or 3 semesters.

I am sure the MPA program requires a GRE. The MBA requires the same score on your GMAT as any other CSU Campus.

    Mr. Engineer:

Actually, even within the same campus of the same university at the same degree level, different departments can have different admissions requirements. Let's take a look at all six DL master's programs that California State University, Dominguez Hills (www.csudh.edu) offers.

MA Humanities: 3.0 in the last 60 semester hours (or 2.5 for conditional admission). No entrance exam.
MA Negotiations and Conflict Management: 3.2 in the last 60 semester hours. No entrance exam.
MBA: 2.75 in the last 60 semester hours. 450 on the GMAT.
MPA: 3.0 in the last 60 semester hours. No entrance exam.
MS Nursing: 3.0 in the last 60 semester hours. GWE exam. Current nursing licensure.
MS Quality Assurance: 2.75 in the last 60 semester hours. No entrance exam.
