    All,

As many have done in the past, I will join the ranks of the grateful that have discovered all of the great communication in this forum. I discovered Degreeinfo while researching the best way to finish my degree in Japan, also I screwed up my login, that’s why my account is vonnell1.

My current dilemma is that I have to much spare time on my hands and the GI Bill has 8k more to use :) PHD or MBA/IT or CISSP cert, I'm torn between the three currently. Any advice? Again, thanks for the past advice and lively debates.

    Congrats!

    Congrats Vonnell1,

    Well done shipmate.

Ultimately, the decision will rest on your goals and aspirations. I would question how much additional benefit you would gain by earning an MBA, as your Masters was in Management. The PhD would help if you want to teach. Do some soul searching, and you'll find the answer.

There are many on this forum that know much more about this subject than I, and I am confident they will jump in shortly.

    Personally,
I'm going to earn my PhD, if for no other reason that my wife and Mother in Law will need to call me Doctor. The aggravation value would easily be worth the 25-40k :)

Congratulations, vonnell1. Well done! It's always good to hear of board members finishing their degree programs.

Where you go next will depend on what your hopes and/or plans are for the future. A PhD is perhaps the highest high, but if you are intending to work in the world (as opposed to academia), an MBA has a wider variety of utilities.

    Good luck.

Congratulations Vonnell!. My advice is that you take a bit of a break. If another degree is the best way to go for you then it'll become clear soon enough.

    Von,
Knock'em dead & be proud of that accomplishment!

Ultimale, you're nuts...but I must admit, having the "ma-in-law" calling you "Doc" would be worth every moment of the frustration endured!

    Best,
    Gavin

I don't know if an MBA will be worth much to you since you have a Master's in Management. A PhD will take a lot more than that 8k, not to mention a lot of time. I'd probably do the CISSP cert. It seems to fit what you are doing and in your price range. Then if you are still interested go for the PhD.

Vahoooooo!! Way to go, Vonnell !

Welcome to the DI Alumni/ae Club.

More grease to your elbow. You have done well - and, no doubt, will continue to do well, no matter the route - MBA or PhD or other course of (accredited, legitimate) study or study break (well earned, no doubt).

    Keep up the good work.
