Master in theology. What options?

    Hello,

An acquaintance of mine is a pastor of an evangelical church in Europe and he has a bachelor in theology. He takes an interest in a M.A. or M. Div. degree in theology which he could earn through distance learning. A residential requirement of several weeks would be no problem. Could you suggest a few options? How much should he be prepared to spend for the whole degree?

    Thank you,

    Dennis

PS: the degree doesn't have to be from an US school. It could also be a South Arfrican or British institution etc.

Liberty has several options. I think they are around $165 per credit hour, IIRC.

For less money, he could look at The South African Theological Seminary or other SA option. He can expect to spend around a couple thousand US $ or so for the whole program. They will allow him to send his transcripts to them (even copies or unoffical ones) for evaluation to tell him what they would require. That is a free service. Then if he wants, he can sign up or look elsewhere.

Where in Europe is your friend located? If this friend, like you, is based in Germany, there is a cooperative program between the University of South Africa and a theological college in Germany. In addition, I would recommend the range of MTh programs available through International Baptist Theological Seminary in Prague.

Several British schools, including London School of Theology, Spurgeon's College, Trinity College (Bristol), Cliff College, and Nazarene Theological College, have outstanding MA/MTh programs that might be suited to your friend. Most are quite reasonably priced and only require a few weeks in residence over a several-year period.

In addition to specifying location, if you could specify any specific subject-area interests that your friend has, I would be glad to endeavour to provide further recommendations.

    Blessings!

Mr. Seibel, thank you for your reply. Being a degreeinfo member for several years now, I've followed many a discussion where you have participated and it is obvious that you have profound knowledge of the subject when it comes to theology and particularly distance education in theology. If you don't mind my friend could contact you directly through e-mail so you can discuss the issue in greater detail. I've already asked him and he told me that he would be very interested. If it is acceptable to you also, you can contact me through the private message option.

    Kind Regards,

    Dennis

How about sharing the information with the board so we can all benefit rather than going into the backroom where only a few can benefit? - Theo

Sorry, Janko. I just thought I'd help out our mutual friend DesElms because he didn't seem to be speaking up too fast.

Changing the subject... so... like... what's with the blank posting in this thread? Did something get deleted or something? Just curious.

    What's that?

    1. Not speaking up too fast?

    2. Being a friend to both Ted Heiks & Uncle Janko?

    3. Having proprietary rights on the anti-PM rant?

    (1) Sorry about the incorrect www address.
    ICU is at http://home.comcast.net/%7Eicuweb
    HACS is at www.holyapostles.edu

    (2) Per a DesElms post (I checked & he is right), this one has disappeared from the school's website

    Greetings!

I'm back after being absent from this discussion thread for a couple of weeks. My apologies for that. I had some trouble with my degreeinfo user account and have been unable to post for over two weeks. It's a silly story, really. The problems seem to have related to my attempts to update my degreeinfo account to reflect my new email address at the seminary ([email protected]). Apparently, the seminary server wasn't allowing me to receive an email from degreeinfo requiring me to verify the changes in my account. Having gotten that sorted out, I'm just glad to be back.

Dennis, I will be happy to get reintegrated into this discussion in whatever way you wish. Please feel free to pose any further questions here, or have your friend email me at the address I've provided above.

Blessings! Sorry again for the delay.
