Looks like there are a few problems with the forum. I apologise for deleting your other thread. I went to delete my post there and it ended up deleting the entire thread (not that there was anything else in there other than a topic).
Regarding the title of this thread: No, they're not. CSU may or may not be one of the three schools in DETC's pilot, but none of the schools will be offering the Ph.D. Do you have specific information we can go see?
If Columbia Southern University is actually allowed to 'market' PhD degrees it will harm the reputation all U.S. schools in the eyes of the world. PM for details because it's just too much to post here. Bill HongKong
Gee, I think I made it clear in my previous post that CSU will not conduct Ph.D. programs. No DETC-accredited school will do so (other than the foreign schools operating Ph.D. programs outside DETC's accreditation scope). Also, if you have something to say regarding CSU, and can support what you say, I suspect readers of this forum would like to know what it is.
Maybe like the UWA? I agree! Perhaps there are murmurs somewhere regarding a UWA supported program leading to a Ph.D? But, is UWA even accredited for the Ph.D. program? (Wee, look at me, fueling the unsubstantiated rumor fires when I don't know a thing about it! Enjoy!) Dan B
The information regarding CSU starting a Ph.D program is attached. http://www.columbiasouthern.edu/alumni/alumninewsletter.htm
Ok, that didn't work. Go to the CSU website at http://www/colsouth.edu Go to the Alumni link and click on "Newsletter"
A rose by any other name... So, it's a DBA instead of a PhD. That's interesting. Does anyone know, offhand, who the other four institutions working on DETC doctorate programs are?
link weird Couldn't follow that link, but I went to the site indirectly through the alumni site and...sure enough they're talking about it. "Doctor of Business Administration Program- A Reality at CSU? Columbia Southern University is one of five DETC accredited institutions developing pilot doctoral level programs. Dr. Richard Gray has joined the CSU staff as Dean of Doctoral Programs and is responsible for developing the program for the Doctorate of Business Administration degree. The program is now being written and should be reviewed for approval by DETC late in Fall 2005 or early 2006. For more details on the program please contact Dr. Richard Gray at [email protected] ." Dan B
Your correct...My mistake. CSU is going to offer DBA. I associated the Ph.D with a DBA. I don't know the other four schools involved in the DBA/DETC.
Re: Hence, Not "freaked." "Reacted." The traditional academic community is going to fight DETC on this, IMHO. There is no way they (the RA's) will allow DETC schools to award the Ph.D. I'm surprised that DETC has gotten this far. (And they're not home yet.) This is all about expanding DETC's scope and getting USDoE to approve it. What isn't talked about is CHEA's take on all of this. CHEA is where the community is strongest, and where the reaction to it might first be heard. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
BTW, I started a new thread on this topic because I had significant information, much of it more concrete than the speculations in this thread.
