I just received this from UNPHU... it appears that they offer degrees in almost any field! Anyone ever hear of this place? They seem to have gone through a lot not to be legitimate.

    They have a website: http://unphu.edu.do

Although I have never solicted any material from them, I received the following: "Thank you for your interest in UNPHU. Our institution maintains a long tradition and a well established reputation. We are located in the City of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic"

It seems very convenient, and fun:
"Our Ph.D. programs can be done residentially (on campus) or by distance learning (off campus). We follow the European model of doctoral education. Our doctoral programs are research based. In the residential program, our students commence their studies in January, May or September. In the distance learning program, our students commence their studies at the same time following the university's academic calendar. In this program, students must attend a one week on campus orientation prior to starting their research. During this week, the students design their dissertation research, and get an orientation of the overall program of studies. They are also assigned a mentor who will guide them during their dissertation research (the students may choose their mentors). Students must attend instruction at our campus for a week during their studies (usually during the middle of their studies). Students are encouraged to attend our campus as often as they need; this however, is not mandatory. The only mandatory campus attendance is: 1. One week at the beginning of the program. 2. One week during their program. 3 One week at the end of their program. In that last week of attendance the students defend their dissertation and graduate. Married students usually bring their families to Santo Domingo during their on campus attendance. While the student is on campus, the family may take a vacation at the beach, etc" although I must admit that I won't be taking any classes from here.

Buyer Beware is all I can say at this point.

Has anyone found a listing of the fees and tuition?

  4. This is a real university; very legitimate university. They have also, an accredited medical school.

The fees are a little high; is about 16,000, plus the 3 weeks residency.

All the Dominican Republic Universities are RA equivalent in US.

Now, be careful. The program is only investigation-dissertation. Is a very difficult program. Is so difficult, that a full-time student spends two to three years investigating and then, defend the dissertation.

To give you an example, the average dissertation is about 400 pages, plus, tables, bibliography etc.

If a person has the time, and the bravery to be slave of his investigation-dissertation, is a great program, if not, look to other place.

This is a really funny sentence if you've ever lived in the Caribbean.
