Dear all, If you were to rank the following universities: Dalhousie (Canada) Queens (Canada) Pretoria (South Africa) Charlse Sturt (Australia) Nova Southern (US) Walden (US) NCU (US) How you will rank them repetition-wise? Thanks
With best reputation at the top: Queen's (Canada) Dalhousie (Canada) Pretoria (South Africa) Walden (US) Charles Sturt (Australia) Nova Southern (US) NCU (US) I find it bizarre that I am able to produce a fairly clear-cut ranking despite the fact that I know virtually nothing about any of these schools. Of course reputation can vary greatly from field to field, and may or may not be correlated with quality.
Following up on Dr. Walters comment, I'd say that you need to ask a more specific question. Are you comparing only the undergrad programs? The grad schools? Specific departments? I might, for example, agree with Dr. Walters in placing Queens above Pretoria . . . right up until you tell me that the purpose of this ranking is to obtain employment in South Africa. Then I might go with Pretoria simply because of the name recognition advantage, the number of potential conections with alumni, etc. If I had to choose a doctoral program from that list of schools I'd probably favor the US schools if for no other reason than those I mentioned above. If I had to pay for it myself I'd choose Pretoria, regardless of any reputation advantage/disadvantage. Jack
I think Muhammad had them in pretty much the right order to begin with, except Queens should be on top (IMHO). (Assuming Southern = Southeastern.)
Thank you all for your valuable replies. Actually I know it is difficult to rank them in general. However, what I am thinking about if a PhD from each of the mentioned university has applied to a position of a faculty member. Who will have a better chance to get the job knowing that all other things are equal (no. of publication, etc.)? Regards
