I mentioned this in another thread, but since someone asked me about this very issue outside this forum, and because it's a common question here, I thought I'd address it in its own thread.

This applies to the Harvard ALM programs in liberal arts. I don't know about the professional or IT programs.

Given the requirement that ALM candidates take a seminar in their field, even if you can find sufficient classes online, it is not possible to complete the ALM with less than one four-month semester in Cambridge at the Extension School itself.

The Summer School does not offer in-field seminars for the ALM nor are the seminars offered online. (Though the ALM proseminar is offered through the Summer School as well as through the Extension School.) The only way to take the seminars is to attend either the fall or sprimg semester at the Extension School.

I'm not pointing this out to be discouraging, just to offer a realistic time estimate to anyone who is considering attempting the degree with minimal residency.

This is also true for the ALM in IT - but for slightly different reasons.
