Umm... haven't we read elsewhere in these fora that the whole credit banking thing, generally, is kinda' not all it's cracked-up to be? I mean, I'm not trying to shoot a hole in it, but I thought I remembered reading several postings to that effect around here from time to time. No? Maybe some experts will chime-in. Oh... and, by the way: The period at the very end of the link in the previous post breaks it. It should have been: http://www.tesc.edu/prospective/undergraduate/tuition.php Just tryin' to be helpful. EDIT: Oh... I think Ted was correcting his link as I was typing the above and clicking on the "Submit" button (see next posting, below). How 'bout that!
Re: Re: Credit banking at TESC Try this again: www.tesc.edu/prospective/undergraduate/tuition/php Non-degree charges are $350 for 1-60 credits, $500 for 61-120 credits, and $750 for 121+ credits. There is a $50 Individual Learner's Account Fee per credit transcribed.
I'm kinda wonderin' myself. Could it be that (since TESC represents the $500 fee for 60-120 credits as a non-degree charge and the $50/hr. as an individual learner's account fee) if an individual who spent the last two decades or so accumulating 120 credits at an assortment of seven or more different junior colleges, colleges, universities, and other institutions of higher learning, the $500 applies to simply depositing 120 credits at the credit bank while earning an actual TESC degree would be $6000 ($50 x 120)?
Thanks! Ok, Thanks to you and Mr. Deselms. I think I will hold off on the credit banking thing for now. I am not even sure it would really do me any good. In another month or two I am planning on applying to COSC, I am hoping to receive at least 90 credits towards my B.A. in liberal studies, if I receive a few more credits, I will be happy. I will just have to wait and see, I guess I am getting a little ansy. Have a great weekend! Abner
Greetings, For what its worth, here are my unsolicited opinions: a) Considering it involves almost no work, TESC's credit banking fees seem obscene. Charging per credit, rather than per transcript, seems to me tantamount to spiting in ones face. b) Surely COSC (www.cosc.edu) would provide the same service, probably better, cheaper? c) While it is nice to have ones credits "banked," few institutions will actually cash your checks. <g> For example, I don't think it is unusual for a college to refuse a "banked" transcript from COSC and demand transcripts from the original institutions. Good luck! Cordially, Richard Kanarek
I have found the TESC credit bank useful. It only cost me $250 total, since I used the military discount. An Individual Learner's Account is a different service than the credit bank service. There is no $50 per credit hour for credit banking. http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18705&highlight=fema .
Credit Bank This consolidates college-level work from sources such as Colleges, Universities, College-Level Examinations (CLEP, Dantes/DSST, AP, GRE), Licenses and Certificates on a single transcript. Individual Learners Account This deals with getting credit for college-level corporate training programs from companies such as IBM and Xerox. .
Yes... that sort of thing is what I remember reading. It would be great if an employer or institution would accept the credit bank/consolidated transcript, but just about every RA institution I've ever talked to says things like, "and then we'd need a transcript mailed directly from every college or university you've ever attended," and other similar language. Then again, I've never asked any of them if they'd accept a credit bank/consolidated transcript. Performing this search here: credit AND bank* produces these results... some of which threads are probably not appropriate; but many of which are, by their subjects, clearly about credit banking... ...if that helps.
Thanks! It does help, I think I am going to steer clear of credit banking, I don't think I will need it after all. I won't go into a lot of details because I have a huge homework assignment I have to get to. Thanks to everybody for their input, I really appreciate you all taking the time! Good evening! Abner
