In my case, not just one degree but two. Check my posting history and you'll see how I kind of "grew up in this neighborhood". Seems like yesterday I was posting questions like "Is TESC legit". Sheesh!

    Your turn.

    Dr. Bear

I think many of us, especially some who have been here a couple of years, came to this via Dr. Bear's books. I know that when I read my first "distance degrees", I was so excited that I read it from one end to the other until I knew EVERY option that I could follow.
I then used the board here and my own research to achieve my Bachelor's degree in two years starting from scratch (OK , not scratch, I had 6 credits from 19 years ago clep humanities test.) and then six graduate credits in Psych at UWA and then, was accepted into the competitive Queen's University MFA in Creative Writing program. n I have 18 graduate credits there.
In the past three years, my family and I have completed work at Dickinson State University, Piedmont Technical College, Asheville-Buncombe Technical College, Queens University of Charlotte, University fo North Carolina Asheville, Lake Region College, Bismark State University, Minot State University, Charter Oak States College, Eastern Oregon University, And the University of West Alabama. So we are pretty adept at dealing with admissions and fin aid in the distance realm.
So, that's our story. It goes on....

    Dr Bear, then DegreeInfo

DegreeInfo definitely helped me finish my degree.

Like others on this board, my journey started with 2 of Dr Bears books. Then a Google search brought me here.

This site has been a tremendous help in my pursuit of higher education. This site provides tons of helpful tips, proof and testimonies from other students and graduates and much more.

As a result of this site, I have not only finished mY BSBA, but I am almost done with my MBA!

Thank you for all of the help, inspiration and assistance to everyone in the DegreeInfo family :)

    In a sense, yes.

I was a very young airman in 1980 when I first read John's guide. (BG6) I was an education specialist, and was finishing up my first USNY Regents bachelor's. The book changed my life.

Over the next 6 years I became deeply ensconsed in the field of alternative higher education. I earned a classroom-based MBA in 1985, and began looking for a doctoral program that would allow me to study this field as a discipline and do it by independent study. That meant Union.

I entered union in January 1986 and wrote John soon afterwards, asking if he'd join my committee. I didn't know him, and fully expected him to turn me down. After all, he was the big dog in this field, and certainly he wouldn't have time for little ol' me. I also asked that he refer me to someone who might consider serving. I still remember what he wrote, saying that like Miss America, who never gets asked out because people assume she'll say no, no one had ever asked him to serve on a committee. (That's changed since then; he's served on several since.) Needless to say, I was stunned when he agreed to serve (and recommended a few others, including Dick Crews, who also agreed to serve.)

Several years later, along with two assignment changes and several topsy-turvey turns in my home life, I had to drop my program right after submitting my first dissertation draft to my core professor. This was 1994. (I'd taken several terms off because of military commitments.) I was toast.

John and I stayed in touch, and I stayed current in the field. When the internet took off in homes, I became a denizen of a.e.d. When that forum went sour, this board was established. It didn't take long to move on over. In 2002, John asked Union to waive its time-in-program requirement for me. They did, and I was re-admitted, starting in June. I graduated in June 2003.

So, did Degreeinfo help me get my degree? Damn straight. Without it, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to stay engaged, making my return to (and completion of) my Ph.D. possible. I am forever grateful. (Especially twice a month.)

At DI I learned of the possibility of doing a foreign DL doc in Theology and was encouraged by members here in my little struggles to finish it.

Not yet, but then I'm only a new member - but it has helped me to find a programme that I am hoping to begin very soon.

Before knowing about degreeinfo I was rolling in KWU. I do not know the difference between accredited and unaccredited universities in USA. Then, after going through degreeinfo, I decided to go for accredited PhD program and the members here helped me in choosing the University of Pretoria and thanks God I have just completed my PhD degree after almost 4 years of study.

    Thanks degreeinfo

I was thinking about waiting until I finish my B.S. in October to post, but then realized that I earned a certificate and subsequent associates degree last October thanks in large part to being a member here.

I learned about Bears guide a loooong time ago (not from here), and that made me think that this from-the-projects-of-Jersey-City-juvenile-delinquent boy could, someday, go to college. Then I ran across BAin4Weeks on this board, and decided that I would go to college, and do it in a reasonable time frame. I enrolled in my first class two weeks later.

I learned about Bellevue University from an old post I dug up here searching for something entirely different, and it happened that Dr. Bear said good things about BU. Not to be a Bear-shill, but generally, if it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me. He's forgotten more than I've learned about colleges.

Now, a year and a half later, I am married to the love of my life, whom I met in school. I am also looking hard at different grads schools. As I said in another post, Charles Sturt has something that interests me greatly, and what American would have ever heard of Charles Sturt University if they weren't plugged into this community, or something very similar.

This board, along with some other very key resources, has had a great and positive impact on my life. I'm very thankful.

Degreeinfo.com was what motivated me to go back to school and finish my degree. I had only planned on a Bachelors Degree but again degreeinfo.com got me thinking and I'm on my way to an MBA.

As others have said....it was Dr. Bear who first informed me through his book about distance learning and accreditation. Next on to aed which devolved into a mess. Then thanks to Chip and whoever else was involved...along came degreeinfo.

Degreeinfo has helped to to pass many hours with stimulating discussion about educational issues, to learn and to establish some virtual friendships. It also helped inspire me on for 3 years while I worked on my doctorate full time, worked in my job and tried to be a Dad/Husband. Gave me a much needed respite while working on my dissertation.

If not for this list, I would still be a high school dropout.

This site is the best thing to ever happen to me, and I've gone from a Taco Bell cashier on the verge of being homeless, to a six-figure project manager for one of the largest banks in the world in just three years. No kidding!

The degree on your resume, and a little bit of luck, goes a long way. Do not ever, ever stop in your pursuit of a degree!

  14. A few years ago, advice on this board helped me clear the last obstacles en route to a bachelor's from TESC. DL has since become my version of crack. Rock on...

This board has been a big help!

I had never heard of this site until I read, "Bears guide to Distance Learning". This board has given great advice on how to obtain my degrees. I have also recently learned from the site to believe it when a poster says something negative about a college. Therefore, that is one lesson this site has taught me to not take so lightly in the future. However, this message board does offer some great advice.:)

Without Degreeinfo.com, I do not think I would have earned my BS from COSC. I definitely would not gotten my MS from TUI, and I never would have dreamed of a PhD from NCU.

When I look at it like that...it is all alphabet soup!

Randell, a few weeks ago I was doing some research in the DegreeInfo archives and came across a few of your old posts. You were considering grad school at the time, when you completed your BS. It's funny, because a year and a half ago, I had nothing but a few measly, very old semester hours, and I'm now in the position you were in of shopping for a graduate school. If the (latest) plan I am considering materializes, I could get the masters in about a year, and go from zippo to masters in three years. So now when I see your sig that says NCU PhD (enrolled), it helps to solidify the efforts of today into something more than a dream.

Hi gang. Just throwing my story in for posterity. :)

I had an older copy of Dr. Bear's book, but found degreeinfo.com on my own. Having run several large online communities myself, I figured there had to be a community out there somewhere that focused on distance learning, so I started searching, and voila ...

That was about 2 years ago - since then, I've gone from just a handful of precious junior college credits to just 4 classes left to get my BS in Business from TESC ... :)

BTW, a thanks to everyone who answered my questions along the way - couldn't have done this without you all!

    Cheers.
