    Hi,

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I am curious how the MBA is going. I am constantly changing my shortlist of MBA schools and wondering how your Texas A & M - Commerce experience has been so far. Are the classes challenging? Is there much interaction between students, or is it mostly lonely? How is the grading tough/easy/in between? Any info you can provide would be extremely interesting. Thanks.

Overall, I've enjoyed my courses at TAMU-C. There was a bad grading situation by my management professor which I posted about here back in December.

Each course was administered quite differently. There is no standard among professors. Each is allowed to create their own grading system/scale and each differed in the degree of difficulty.

I will give a brief synopsis of my courses here:

Finance - Professor did not utilize discussion board, so there was no interaction among students. He used PowerPoint presentations to provide the lectures with his voice over them explaining key concepts. We had to take graded homework quizzes and had two major exams which were multiple choice and taken entirely online.

Marketing - We had to respond to questions in the discussion board with intelligent feedback every week and each posting had an assigned deadline. We were required to respond to other students' comments. We had to write 4 case analyses and had both a mid-term and final exam which was multiple choice and taken entirely online.

Economics - This was a horrible class with no feedback or professor interaction whatsoever until about 3/4 way through the course. He then added voice lectures using PowerPoint. We had graded homework every week and 3 major exams. Again, each exam was multiple choice and graded entirely online.

Management Skills - This class was a joke. We had to write a 300-word essay each week. The first 100 words was a summary of the chapter reading, the second 200 words was a summary of an assigned case reading, and the remaining 100 words was an analysis of the case. There was no contact with the professor whatsoever - we just submitted these assignments each and every week. We also had to do a personal SWOT analysis. There were no exams and the grading scale was screwy (read my posting in December).

Statistics - The professor provided lectures with his voice on them. We had tons of homework problems due twice per week. In addition, we had two quizzes each week. There were 3 exams, all of which were multiple choice and taken entirely online. There were no required disucssion board postings, but we were encouraged to ask and answer questions among ourselves on the board.

Research Methods - The class was interesting. We had discussions every week and had to submit parts of a large research project individually throughout the semester. There was also a Statistical Tests project and two exams. The exams were all multiple choice and entirely online.

Strategic Management - This is the capstone course for the MBA program and is very time-consuming. The course involves major discussion board participation with 35% of the course grade allotted to that participation. There is a mid-term exam which was a case analysis of a company assigned by the instructor. We had to use a 25-step process which was detailed in our textbook to perform the analysis. The paper could be no more than 12 pages single-spaced in Arial 10-point font. We had one week to complete the exam. This exam served as 35% of the course grade and counted as our comprehensive examination for the entire MBA program. The rest of the course involves a larger scale case analysis of a corporation which is performed in groups of 3-4 students. After we submitted them, they were distributed to the entire class and each student had to critique 3 of them in our discussion board which was a large component of our discussion board participation grade. We then had to take the critiques and improve our cases and submit a revision for grading. There were no other assignments.

    Hope this has been helpful.
