I have recv'd information on the DL MSc programmes and have written on several occasions for some more information on the PhD in CJ via DL. I have yet to receive any clear answers to my questions from the admissions office. All responses simply parrot the information on the website and in the brochures. At this point, the DL PhD programme is alluded to numerous times yet there is no definitive programme information.

Does anyone have any knowledge of or experience with the DL programmes at the Scarman Centre?

Thanks in advance for your help,
    Sunnie

Three years ago, when I was working as a "talent scout" for Pearson, I spent time visiting Scarman, and ended up urging Pearson to forge a relationship, but it never happened. It seemed a wonderful place to me, serious, prestigious, and so friendly. At that time, and I think now, the only doctorates they were doing were in the research model, and not many of those.

I wonder if the time of year has effect on the poor responses you are getting. My best advice is to write directly to Dr. Martin Gill, head of the Centre, telling him that you have done so at John Bear's suggestion (and that I said hello), and now here are the questions for which answers are needed.

    Best wishes in this quest.

Thank you very much. Sometimes a personal contact can make all the difference. I am looking for a very specialized PhD program and I believe that this one will suit my needs exactly. Depending on residency requirements, cost, etc. -- I may end up searching closer to home. My area of interest is specialized yet broad -- so I can go in any number of research directions to get to my goal.

Other programs in which my interest could be researched include: Union Institute, Regent University (Jason Baker is a former professor of mine in another program and we still keep in contact on occasion). I have also been looking at Saybrook (but I'm not exactly impressed with some of the prof bios there) and I recently found Touro Univ -- still wondering about that one.

In any case, in each of the above (and probably a few more I haven't found yet) I can tailor the PhD program to my research interests and get where I need to go in my future work.

BTW I just graduated from CSUH -- MS in Education with Online Teaching and Learning specialization. My PhD interests do not run toward education although I could manage to tailor that to what I need as well and I will consider an education degree as a last resort.

Thanks again for your help -- I will write to Scarman again today [IMG]
