    Hi
I am a new member and was wondering if anyone knows of any MFA degrees in creative writing (non-fiction) from foreign institutions that are not degree mills. Or does anyone know where I could find out about this. I am a teacher and I can't afford the high tuition of Goddard, Bennington, National, UBC etc. If the price was low, I could also manage a low residency in the summer. Thanks a lot Renee

    Hi Renee,

I'm not certain about foreign institutions, I do think that they call their degree smething else.
I am a student at Queens University of Charlotte in their Low residency MFA in creative writing. They have fiction, non-fiction, and now, screeenwriting tracks... although the screenwriting is very new and quite competitive.
It's wonderful! The faculty is first class. Our "pods" are only four students to an instructor (always an excellent professional, currently published writer).
I know that National University now has an MFA in Creative Writing totally distance. I don't know how that works, because I need my one week fix every semester.
    Good Luck.

OK, there's good news and there's bad news.
The good news is that UNISA does have a Masters degree program in creative writing (although I don't think it's an MFA degree, it's an MA degree. They may not have MFA degrees in ZA.
This means that you have an ultra inexpensive alternative, should it fit your needs.
The bad news is that it seems that UNISA has just revamped their website. It seems to be a bit buggy at the moment and so finding stuff is not as easy as it was a while back. The Masters degree program is within the Department of English (Literature). If money is an issue for you then slogging through the website could be well worth it.

(if you're interested then you shpuld also contact iaci-canada as they can be quite helpful in the application/registration process.)
