AOL and Berlitz offer English Language Lessons Online

    AOL Latino, America Online's bilingual Internet service for U.S. Hispanics, has teamed up with Berlitz International to offer English language lessons for free to its members.

    The entire language course features 96 recorded online sessions with visual and audio components, the companies said Tuesday. Weekly classes can be played back and used repeatedly for review and reinforcement. In addition, consumers can install an offline collection of more than 100 hours of learning material on their computers, so that they can learn at their own pace.

    Hmm. Maybe AOL will develop and full degree program next.

    Gee, I've been told that there is such a thing as United States Open University. Why not America Online College?

    There was a failed attempt to start a "United States Open University" a few years ago; UK's Open University was involved.

    As far as an AOL University, I'd think it would be easier for them to partner with an existing institution rather than diverge from core competencies. After all, they partnered with Berlitz rather than offer it themselves.

    Someone was suggesting that University of Phoenix might license its "rEsource" materials. Perhaps that's part of a fit.
