Don't know if this has been posted already, but it is an interesting read for those of you concerned with university qualifications...

And here is a list of CEOs and their college backgrounds...
    http://www.usatoday.com/money/companies/management/2005-04-07-ceo-colleges.htm

Let's hear it for UMass Lowell and Nova Southeastern...two universities that make appearances on this site frequently enough. They made the list. Any others on there that are mentioned frequently on DegreeInfo.com?

Yale and Harvard certainly didn't seem to have had much of an effect on Dubya's intellect.

A lot of state universities on the list, but I don't see any obvious DL standouts. No one attended the "Big 3" or a similar college known for its DL programs. Nova is on the list, so is Penn State and Louisiana State, which offer several DL courses or degrees. I would have liked to have seen a CEO who got their degree from Baker College or Bellevue University.

BTW, I don't think this board is the proper venue for your political views. There's another board for that. You don't graduate Yale if you're stupid, no matter how much money your old man has.

That is your opinion based on no quantifiable data. At least 60% of the board consists of political opinions in some way or another.

ALL Ivy League schools allow a certain number of admissions based on alumni status' and family donations. And yes, you can get into Yale, Stanford, Harvard, or even MIT as a legacy student based on the criteria stated above. Remember GW was turned down for UoT (a B school).

Interesting article Scotty. I don't think the school you go to makes you a better CEO. I look at it this way - some great leaders have had to pull themselves up by their bootstraps going to B and C schools. They didn't have the silver spoon like some leaders - they had to earn it any way they could.

I look at my father as a great example. He had two successful companies, was at the time the only non-degreed Assistant Chief Engineer for for AT&T during the 70's, and had 40 patents - all with only two years of Cal Poly.

    Tenacity is everything.

Yeah, I found the article somewhat inspiring. The best part was about how corporations are recognizing the value of a person's ability to relate to and communicate with regular people. That bit about "elitist" eastern attitude that GW tries to play down by playing up his Texas roots was interesting.

Sorry about the swipe at the Commander in Chief. It was all in fun. I do believe, however, that people can get into and through top tier schools by virtue of contacts and doing the minimal amount of homework. Legacies are powerful things and remember, every class has a graduate who ranks dead last.

Yes, it is my opinion. The original statement was also that author's opinion. Does that make my post any less valid because you don't agree with it?

Sure, it's my opinion...just as the original statement was that author's particular opinion. However, my opinion is no less valid just because you happen to disagree with it.

Legacy admissions might help a student get into college, but it won't help them graduate.

    Mr. Engineer,

One of the first things they teach you in B-school is that B-school profs are told, "Be nice to your A and B students as they will be back to join you as profs but be especially nice to your C students as they will be back to endow the university." Ability to bash one's head against the wall often counts for more than just sheer brains.

Actually, Engineer Dude, you misstated his comment. He didn't deny that W got into an Ivy through connections, he said that W getting through an Ivy was a sign that he wasn't stupid. You set up a straw man there, and knocked it down quite adeptly, but you didn't address what he said.

As for political views being properly on another board, of course, there are two boards that serve that purpose much better here, this board's about DL, not politics. Now, having said that, i must admit to violating that priciple myself, but I'm trying to reform.

Regents College/Excelsior had an article in the alumni magazine a year or two ago about alumnus Ed Rensi who went from burger flipper at McDonalds to President of same. Ed is no longer with big Mac but now heads a big NASCAR operation. Some of his bios say he graduated from Ohio State but the article says he only attended.

I just wanted everyone to know I did not intend the multiple post as a means of jumping on Engineer. Sometimes I can't get my messages to post, and when they do they show up three different times. Anyone else have that problem? It's quite frustrating.

There can be quite a lag before a reply is posted so as to be seen. A workable technique is to post - rebuild your car engine - check for your post, post - go away for the weekend - check for your post, etc.
