    Chris,

if you plan on calling a lot then take a look at:

    www.vonage.com (http://www.vonage.com/intrates.php#U)

    www.lingo.com

Shop around for calling cards and/or cell phone plans that allow for international dialing. You might even be able to activate a local UK cell number and have it shipped to you. Be careful of additional charges when using.

You can also use something like net2phone:

    http://web.net2phone.com/consumer/commcenter/

holler back if you are government or military affiliated or know of someone who is and is in the UK.

    Regards,

    Kevin

I have Lingo, and it's great! It's $19.99 per month for unlimited long distance, and that includes Canada and Western Europe!

I don't work for Lingo, I swear. It really is a good service, and from what I understand, the sound quality is better than Vonage. I have had the occasional lost call, but I'm willing to put up with that for $19.99 per month!

    Wow!

I might check that out, I call Spain and Rome a couple of times a month, sometimes more.

    Thanks for the tip!

I bought a 500 minute MCI calling card, from Costco. Calls to the UK cost me 10c per minute and calls anywhere in the US are 3c per minute. The card can be recharged at the same rate. I do not have a long distance company selected for my land line phone. I have the MCI 800 number and my password programmed into my phone so dialing is fast and easy.
One problem is that I can't sem to use my fax macxhine on overseas calls.

    check out www.skype.com
For computer to computer calls its free.
You can also buy "calling cards" to use for computer to land line calls. My dad (San Diego) bought a credit at Skype to call my land line (I live in Switzerland) and it costs him $.02 per min.

The quality of the call is just like a normal telephone. It's awesome!
