    Hello,

Does anyone attend or have any information on Bellevue University? Is it a good institution? I am torn between Bellevue and COSC. Is one institution better than the other?

    Any help is appreciated.

Bellevue University is a good school. My wifes boss graduated from there. On the other hand, COSC is a good school also. The advantage of COSC over Bellevue is that COSC has no residency requirements, in other words you can do all your coursework via CLEP, DANTES, ECE, etc.

    COSC is mentioned at www.bain4weeks.com

I am currently finishing up a class at The University of Iowa so I can transfer to COSC and finish my B.A. much quicker.

    Take care,

    Abner

COSC is a virtual university with limited classes of their own, whereas Bellevue has a B&M program.

    From the COSC website:

"Charter Oak is a virtual college offering both online and video based courses. Students can also earn credits through:

courses transferred from regionally accredited colleges and universities
    non-collegiate sponsored instruction
    standardized tests
    special assessment
    contract learning
    portfolio assessment"

I think both schools are solid but Bellevue may offer you an edge if it is the only degree you have on your resume because of its B&M presence. However, if you have a bunch of varied credits, CLEP, etc... then COSC may be quicker.

Bellevue has traditional majors/minors versus concentrations so your degree would reflect the same. COSC does not.

    Bellevue U

I am in my second core course (for my BusMngt Major) at Bellevue. The courses have been great, the professor is very knowledgeable and the admissions persons are right on top of things.

If you're looking for a full program with ample course offerings, Bellevue is a great choice.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I am half way through the core courses and Kirkpatrick series at Bellevue. I am pleased. I transferred in 82 semester hours and the rest of my program is accelerated. I will be done in October. Bellevue is a good school, and one can blast through it in a very reasonable amount of time. That isn't to say that it's easy, but they cater to adult learners.

    Almost there!

    Your almost there spmoran!

I figure when I am done with my last class at the University of Iowa(probably around 6/ or 7/05) I will then transfer over to COSC. I am guessing they will give me between 100 and 110 credits, we are almost there man!!!! YEAH! Let's keep are heads up, before we know it we will have that darn degree. I am certainly going to the graduation for the whole world to see, I can taste it I want it so bad!

    See you buddy,

    Abner :) :)

    Brrr....

Yeah, I'll finish my coursework in October and then I'm out Omaha-way to commencement in January. Brrr... But it will be worth it! I wonder just what the heck there is to do in January in Nebraska. Besides freeze my behind off, I mean.

    Re: Brrr....

I am not sure, my friend Steve goes out that way sometimes. He goes hiking, and stuff like that. Will any of your family be going out with you? I just can't wait to graduate, I wouldn't care if I had to go to Death Valley, he he! When I do graduate I will be going to Conneticut at COSC.

    Have fun!

    spmoran...

Your professor for the BIS program wouldn't happen to be J. Smith would it?

Um, that's Professor Smith to me. Yes, he is. How do you know. Are you him?

    Yeah...

Yeah, that's me...and I'm giving you a big fat "F" for the rest of your classes!!!:D

Just kidding, but yeah, he's Professor Smith to me also. I was enrolled in the BIS program that started February of last year, but because I was separating from the Air Force shortly after the first semester I decided to withdraw (I ended up taking the Signature Series during my transition...because I didn't want to lose all of the momentum I had built up in trying to finish my degree).

Anyway, I'm re-enrolling in the 2nd semester which starts on the 25th of April, so I guess I'll be in your class! Just like you, these are the last classes I need for the degree and I can't wait to get started again. I'm way down in Florida, but I plan on going to the graduation if I can get away from work for a couple of days. BTW, what do you think of the SIgnature Series, and you wouldn't happen to have Dr. Mason for that too, would you? Later.

Welcome back! I hope that we will meet each other in January, if that's when you graduate.

The Signature Series has been very interesting so far. Since I'm something of an amateur history buff, there hasn't been many ideas that I've not been exposed to before, but framing it all as American values has been very interesting. The strangest thing has been seeing this really clear line delineated between people who are not Christians and the midwest Christians in the course. Of all the things that contributed to the formation and durability of America, they seem to be interested only in the Judeo-Christian contribution and completely willing to pounce on those who are not in agreement with them. Living in the Pacific Northwest, I am not used to that sort of thing.

Anyway, my Sig professor is Joan Black. Tough grader. :D

I finished my BSc. degree from Bellevue Univ. Went there after 4 classes from Univ of Phoenix. I HATED UofP and was ever so glad to find Bellevue through this forum board. Bellevue is very different in its attitude than UofP. The teacher cares, the admission people care and it's an added bonus to be affiliated with a school that has a B&M presence. I fully recommend Bellevue to anyone.

Huh? You again? I just talked to you in class yesterday. :D

Boy, I wish they would have let me switch degrees in the middle. I know you didn't switch, just changed cohorts, but I was told that even that was forbidden. Aaah, six more months! Yay!

Info on the other BIS program?

    Sean,
I would be really interested in hearing what the people in the other BIS cohort (Professor Fine's class) have to say about the content of the program...like whether or not there is a huge difference between what we do and what they do. I'm just curious.

I also just realized that I've posted three times in this thread, I attend Bellevue... and I never contributed an answer to the original poster's question! All of my info on COSC has come from this forum, the BA in 4 Weeks site, and searching the internet. I considered them briefly when picking a school, but the speed with which I could finish a degree at Bellevue, the B&M aspect, and the fact that I could transfer (in full) my AAS from the Comm. College of the Air Force clinched it for me. Someone mentioned the residency requirement, which may or may not have any bearing on your degree plans. This depends on how many credits you're starting out with anyway, and Bellevue is very generous also with the exam credit. Not quite BA in 4 Weeks generous, but still pretty good.

It's a small world. I'm in a section of Prof. Smith's BIS program which ends in August. I can't really see my flying all the way out to Omaha for graduation, though. Good luck in finishing your program.

Small world indeed, Reggae! I'll tell you, though, I won't miss graduation in January. I've will have waited 42 years for this. I am looking forward to the experience of it. Hope you reconsider!
