From the many accrediting agenicies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, which ones meet the following criteria? 1. Seeking speedy accreditation if not immediate. 2. Least expensive accreditation. 3. Able to offer distance courses and degrees in a variety of subjects. Just curious and thanks in advance!
Need clarification Just trying to clarify... Are you asking which USDE-approved accrediting agencies, from the standpoint of a school that would like to be accredited, would be most likely to accredit a school more or less immediately; at the least (or at least among the lowest) cost charged by any of the accreditors; and would allow the accredited institution to offer distance learning as a delivery method... ...and if "yes" to that last one, do you mean distance learning as just one of the methods, or as the primary method, or as the only method? Just tryin' to understand the question.
... Yes to all the questions. In regards to primary medium for mode of instruction, one that will permit instruction primarily through distant learning but would not exclude on campus instruction as well. Does that make sense?

Seeking speedy accreditation if not immediate. None of recognized accrediting agencies offers immediate accreditation. Accreditation can be "speedy" if the institution to be accredited is already affiliated with an accredited institution, e.g. Touro University International; California State University, Channel Islands; University of California, Merced 2. Least expensive accreditation. Most likely, the least expensive would be accreditation from a recognized professional association. However, these generally accredit single programs, rather than the entire institution. In the case of an entire college or university, national accreditation, such as DETC, AALE, TRACS or ACICS would likely be less expensive and time-consuming than the regional agencies 3. Able to offer distance courses and degrees in a variety of subjects. Distance learning is becoming much more commonplace, so most of the recognized accrediting agencies should be able to accommodate distance courses in a variety of subjects. The DETC, of course, specializes in distance learning institutions. Tony
Re: ... Glad to help, Delta. I have been the beneficiary of the research and summaries of several others on Degreeinfo. It is the main reason why I frequent this forum. If there are places where I can help out as well, I like to try. Tony Piña Administrator, Northeastern Illinois University
