I've read the forum's search results for Clayton College of Natural Health (CCNH). The school is a mystery to me: On one hand, it lacks any credible accreditation or even state approval(?); on the other hand, many of its graduates have written best-selling health books and are quite well-known. Baffling!

I guess what I'm fishing around for is: Does anyone have any "horror stories" regarding CCNH from a student's perspective (eg. curriculum, student services, financial or other issues?)

I appreciate any and all feedback regarding this enigmatic institution. :)

I really question the use of the term "enigmatic." There's nothing mysterious about it at all. It is an unaccredited school operating in a state that refuses to regulate such schools, issuing degrees in a field of study that many find questionable. No mystery there at all.

    Thanks Rich! Good points.

I guess that sometimes we need that additional reminder that "if it looks like poop and smells like poop, it quite possibly IS poop" and therefore it's best not to step in it! :D

Not that I care about this school or their curriculum but to play Devil's Advocate a bit...

Sometimes though, we just think it is poop when in fact it is not. If we remember that the Sun does not revolve around the Earth, that Earth is not the center of the universe and that the Earth is not flat -- all premises once considered as fact with any other opinion regarded as poop or worse -- then we almost have to concede that it is at least possible that this school has something to offer to those who study what it is they teach.

Is it true that their graduates have published well or is it that some who publish on topics of interest to this school later get a degree from this school to add to their credibility? Very different ideas here...

Just a few thoughts... I'm never ready to sumarily dismiss any school that gets measurable results -- regardless of their status within academic circles.

Clayton College of Natural Health (CCNH) moving forward

I have been monitoring this school for quite some time and lately I have seen major changes. Would the experts in this forum take the following as efforts toward gaining accreditation?

    1. A point-by-point response to psychiatrist Stephen Barrett of Quackwatch (released January 27, 2009) http://www.ccnh.edu/about/QW_final012709.pdf

    2. Complete disassociation with the American Naturopathic Medical Accreditation Board (ANMAB) and the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP) http://www.ccnh.edu/about/mission/professionaldevelopment.aspx

    3. Appointment of Teresa Nichols, Ph.D. as Chief Academic Officer and Administrative Leader http://www.ccnh.edu/mediafiles/pressreleases/2009/press012209.html

    4. Adopting a per credit hour tuition scheme http://www.ccnh.edu/about/admissions/tuition_term.aspx

    5. A significant reduction of program offerings, which includes the phasing out of the Doctor of Naturopathy (ND), Doctor of Natural Health (NHD), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees http://www.ccnh.edu/about/admissions/programs/program_home.aspx

I also noticed that they've gone through the painstaking process of explaining in detail the significance and scope of every single course required in each of their various programs (e.g. http://www.ccnh.edu/about/admissions/programs/bachelor_of_science_in_natural_health.aspx)
