The DETC shows Barrington University of Mobile, AL as an applicant for accreditation. Is this the same sleazy outfit that has taken people for years?
It is the only operation using the name "Barrington University" from that part of the country that I know of. I'll leave it to you to make the rest of that leap. DETC has no candidacy for accreditation. Any school, no matter how bad, may apply. But, IIRC, it is frowned upon by DETC for schools to discuss publicly their application--it implies a status where none is given.
Along the same lines as it was an excellent action on the part of St. Regis University to claim bogus accreditation from Liberia, perhaps?
hmmm now that's interesting... we do have the examples of a few universities that changed their strategic direction by pursuing DETC sccreditation and are now on their way to recover from their dark past. I do have my caveats about this knid of an action. Not everyone is sincere about change. Maybe Barrington wishes to make as much money as possible during the application cycle... any takers on this?

I think that's exactly what it's doing. Uh, huh. We'll just see what happens. It's no surprise that you're impressed, though, is it?
Thank to the Holy Spirit, that it would be decision of a not taking sides panel of bona fide professionals (DETC). In addition, that Barrington has the Right that the Accreditation Company provides to them a fair and an unprejudiced procedure. Moreover, that common law due process requires the accrediting body's decision not be arbitrary, capricious, an abuse of discretion, or otherwise not in accordance with law. In addition, if they fail, they can appeal to a Superior Authority and in the reviewing denial of accreditation, the courts would focus primarily, on whether accrediting body's internal rules provide fair and impartial procedure and whether it has followed its rules in reaching its decision.
