I been in the process of opening a Credit Bank account on Excelsior College. My transcript from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico were I went to school for my first two years as an undergrad states that "The programs of study are registered by the ... Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools". While the institution were I graduated and went to law school, The University of Dayton, claims accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

So here is my question, is there a diference in the accreditation status between a registered school and an accredited school or is it the same thing. Furthermore, what does possesing an "absolute charter" from the Board of Regents of the University of New York means?

    Thank You,

I can't answer your questions but I am curious as to why you are opening a Credit Bank.
I have never seen much point in this as most schools want to see transcripts from the school where the units were obtained.

If I'm interpreting this page correctly then Pontifical Catholic is indeed accredited by the Middle States Association.

I wouldn't take "registered" to mean anything in particular.

Can you say which school is claiming an "absolute charter" from the Board of Regents of the University of New York ?

I agree with Ian Anderson that the Credit Bank will probably not serve you any purpose.

I been having a really hard time from UD getting my complete transcripts every time I need them. The University either sends the transcripts incomplete or to the wrong address, etc... Furthermore, since I did not finish law school there the first time around and that was 12 years ago, so I been having some problems getting the credits transfered to other accredited programs. And I also want to remove a few bad grades from my transcripts. I am even considering getting a Bachelor in Criminal Justice from Excelsior. To me, for the price, the credit bank makes perfect sense.

The school claiming to be chartered is the Pontifical Catholic University of PR.

    Miguel,

I strongly advise that you look carefully at what the Credit Bank does and does not do for you. Regionally accredited colleges will not accept a transcript from the Credit Bank. They will require transcripts from all other regionally accredited schools you have attended.

The Credit Bank at Excelsior, and at least one other school, has been discussed in this forum and I haven't seen anyone find a good use for it.
