OK, I need some help and I admire the wisdom of this group. I received my bachelors degree in December, it is an Interdisciplinary Degree, Bachelor of Arts with a Human Development minor. I enrolled at GCU for a Masters in Special Ed. I like the classes but I am so burnt out of being tied to a computer. If I can't post or my computer glitches I get so stressed out. So I am looking to go in a different direction with my studies. Where I live they are opening up a new hospital and medical clinics. I wouldn't mind working in this type of setting. So what would you recommend for classes? I was looking at Medical Terminolgy from BYU. But what else would give me marketable skills? Keyboarding, office management? I really don't know what I need to enhance my skills. Can someone suggest some schools? I would also prefer to do a correspondence format. I am sick of being chained to the computer to read all the postings in my classes etc. If I miss a day, there are like 100 comments to sift through. I took a few correspondence classes when I 1st went back and enjoyed them. I am 49 years old and would like to be marketable in the next 3-4 years. Right now I am doing daycare for my grandson, and I would like to do so for the next 4 years and then reenter the work force. Thanks so much.
I think you may want to re-evaluate this. If you think you are tied to a computer now, and frustrated by glitches etc. this is quite likley not the field for you. It would most likely be spending 40 hours a week at a computer. The special ed work is more people oriented, and less computer based, after you graduate.
Thanks Mike. I actually had an interview at a local hospital yesterday. They gave me some good advice on 3-4 classes they would recommend. When I say that I am chained to the computer, I mean we went away for the week end and I came home and my class had over 200 replies. I am looking to go back into Distance education not on-line to avoid this. I took about 18 credits that way from UW-Superior. If I have a job and have to work with computers that is different. Thanks again.
