    Hello again!

Does anyone in this forum have comments regarding California Coast University? I know that they were recently awarded accreditation by DETC, but that's all I know.

    Website:

    Thanks.

CCU was a most favorite topic here. Do a search.

Now that it's accredited, it is a fine choice as long as a DETC accredited degree will serve your needs.

What Bill said, especially about doing a search. There is a lot to learn and to know. Do that, then ask more specific questions. You'll get a lot more help that way. Until then, like Bill said: DETC-accredited; be sure that's okay with you.

When I took my MBA courses at Cal Coast, it was a painless process. You requested the course, sent in the exam, and then requested the next course(s) by mail. The study guides were very complete, and insured that the subject was covered fully. There are time limits for the courses, but they are measured against the total program in years, not months. It was possible to complete a Master's in a year by doubling up on courses, but it would not be a cakewalk by any means. I worked as hard at Cal Coast for my MBA as I did at Florida Tech (regionally accredited Bricks and Mortar program) for my MS, and as I am doing at Northcentral for my PhD. You truly get out of a program what you put into it.

I ordered three classes at a time. It took me about 18 months to complete the MBA. The classes are not easy. I had to retake two classes just to get my GPA up to 3.08 to graduate.

This school seems to be the best of the DETC "litter". Does anyone know if Excelsior will accept credits from Cal Coast? I am looking for a decent Business Policy course.

    No.

What ever gave you the idea that CCU somehow ranked as the best? It was just recently accredited, and seemed to struggle getting there. What about DETC-accredited schools that also have regional accreditation or other forms of comparable recognition? What about DETC-accredited schools that offer courses evaluated by ACE? What about DETC-accredited schools that have been operating as accredited for a whole lot longer than CCU? I could go on.

CCU is the most talked about, but it is hardly the "best" of the DETC "litter." If you have facts that indicate it is, I'd love to hear about them.

I don't have any facts to support what I said earlier. That's why I said "seemed" to be. A lot of noise has been made about this particular college. I figured there were good, valid reasons as to why. Thanks for the input...

Attention For Those People Considering California Coast University

I found the following information and posted it to another thread regarding former students of CCU. Don't let anyone kid you here. CCU has been in existence for 31 years. First they were California approved to offer degrees and now they have received DETC accreditation. As you will see, their degrees have been widely accepted.

No one would argue that CCU PhD holder have teaching positions but do they get paid as a PhD holder or a holder of a masters?

    Hi M.S.Blanc:

Welcome aboard. Use of the search function might also give a handle on which posters are reliable and which are less-than-sturdy (a Bearesque neologism, faute de mieux).

M.S. Blanc, CCU was arguably one of the better unaccredited schools before it attained, with difficulty, DETC accreditation. It is a reputable school that may well serve your needs--but don't count on credit transferring to regionally accredited schools. Credit transfer can often be a capricious business for any number of reasons, both good and bad. Dr Douglas' cautions are on the mark. Heed them.

Remember also that its now-discontinued doctoral programs remain unaccredited and that any doctoral degrees granted by CCU remain unaccredited despite CCU's subsequent DETC status.

A few persons have resorted to badmouthing reliable posters for failing to fall down and worship CCU. Don't be misled by that. A school shouldn't be judged by a handful of bad apples who search for degree mill degrees in addition to work they might be doing at CCU. That's not CCU's fault.

So proceed with caution. Ignore mill shills without credibility. Search this site thoroughly. Wait for solid answers. And best of luck to you in DL.

    Cordially,
    Janko
