I will need to retake the GRE to apply for doctoral admissions at Nova. My scores are now over 5 years old. I really disliked that exam! I ended up with a good score but I fully admit it was pure luck as I had to guess on a good portion of it. How is the MAT any different? Is it any easier? Any advice? Are there any new books or study aids out in the last 10 years that are better than my old Peterson's book from a decade ago when I studied for the GRE?

I used the REA study guide for the GRE. I thought it was excellent.

The MAT is only 60 minutes and is a bunch on meaningless analogies. (monkey is to pavement as..... etc.) If you are good at those sorts of exams, then go for it.

The GRE is at least 2 hours if you skip the analytical part (some schools don't require it.)

Frankly I'm surprised Nova is using it for doctoral admissions. I knew a guy who used it to get into a master's program somewhere out west. He then wanted to continue to do a PhD, and they told him he had to take the GRE, even though it was at the same school. I hear this is a common problem with the MAT.
