    well...

What I've heard from many veterans of the DL world is that Wyoming does not have an adequate state approval process for universities so a lot of people get away with starting out degree mills. That's not a theoretical notion, but a statistical fact.

How about going for the University of Wyoming itself? Does it have any DL programs? I have followed a link up till here: http://outreach.uwyo.edu/occ
It seems to have both online and correspondance courses... Not sure if they can be entirely translated into a degree.

    All unaccredited schools in Wyoming.

Wyoming does not have an approval process for unaccredited schools. It licenses them, and makes very clear that such licensing does not constitute approval by the state. This high tolerance/low scrutiny environment attracts unscrupulous operators. Hence, the reputation you've caught wind of.

There is a great deal of information regarding both Wyoming specifically and unaccredited DL schools in general available on this board. You might want to do a few searches and get caught up.

I seem to recall that you recently supported the notion of obtaining a bachelor's from SCUPS. I responded, suggesting that such a degree isn't the same as one from an accredited school. Now you're asking about Wyoming-licensed schools. I really suggest you do some research in these matters.

"State Approved" and "State Licensed" are euphumisms for unaccredited. These are categories that blatant degree mills can and do fairly easily infiltrate. Wyoming has one of the weakest set of laws in the USA against academic fraud. Other states might have stronger laws but are not enforced. While some other states (like Hawaii) have weak laws but have chased out many of the degree mills from their jurisdiction thanks to vigorous enforcement.

The conclusion here, IMHO, is that one should best avoid unaccredited schools.

If you're looking for a honest-to-goodness RA school granting 4 year and graduate degrees in Wyoming, the University of Wyoming is the only game in town. I graduated from UW last year, and would eagerly recommend it to someone looking for either a degree or inexpensive courses.

You can find information on UW's online offerings at http://online.uwyo.edu. Information on correspondence and other distance courses (including compressed video and audio conference courses available only to Wyoming residents) is available at http://outreach.uwyo.edu.

Best of luck with your search!
