What a name. Defintely sounds corporate as opposed to academic. University of Sarasota was one of the best names for a DL institution because it actually sounded like a University located some place you have heard of (Sarasota Florida). Oh the genuis of coming up with that name. Arrrgh.... no wait Arrrgh...oh...gasy University.

That is, without a doubt, the stupidest name I have ever heard in my entire life for an institution of higher learning. Nothing else even comes close.

I sincerely hope that our degreeinfo.com and old AED friends that are currently enrolled in the U of Sarasota will be allowed to receive diplomas from Sarasota. Even then, you'd have to say "now Argosy University" as a disclaimer.

What a public relations disaster. What on earth are these people thinking? Who in the hell would pay to enroll in a school called "Argosy"? Haven't these PTB ever heard of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"?

    Stepping off my soapbox,

    Bruce

From Merriam-Webster On-Line we have this definition:

    Main Entry: ar·go·sy
    Pronunciation: 'är-g&-sE
    Function: noun
    Inflected Form(s): plural -sies
Etymology: modification of Italian ragusea Ragusan vessel, from Ragusa, Dalmatia (now Dubrovnik, Croatia)
    Date: 1587
1 : a large ship; especially : a large merchant ship <three of your argosies are... come to harbor -- Shakespeare>
    2 : a fleet of ships
    3 : a rich supply <an argosy of railway folklore -- F. P. Donovan>

I wonder if spring break will become shore leave?
