With the break away from University of the State of New York - can EXCELSIOR COLLEGE survive ?

It appears that they have lost focus on Non-Traditional education.

    Recent trends

    Poor customer service
    Higher cost
    No mission
Unwiliing to take the next step in automation
    Still typing those transcripts

I HOPE THAT THE COLLEGE WILL MAKE IT THROUGH...

They broke away in '97, mate. If they couldn't survive without USNY, we'd know it by now.

    They will survive because of...
    1) credit for life experience
    2) lack of competition
    3) ignorance

Of the DL bachelor's Holy Trinity (COSC, Excelsior, TESC), Excelsior is the only one that does not directly award credit for documented life experience.

Not really; DL bachelor's programs tend to be more symbiotic than competitive, under the Baskins-Robbins principle.

Not bloody likely; even back in 1995, when I was looking for a good bachelor's programs, I heard of TESC before I heard of Regents, not after. Regents won out, mostly because it didn't have a minimum age requirement (though I understand that TESC has happily removed that obstacle over the past few years).

I might add that the symbiotic/Baskin-Robbins principle is my own opinion, and is not documented by empirical research -- but I've spoken to enough prospective DL students over the years to suspect that I am probably accurate on this point.

I also heard of TESC and COSC before enrolling in the school previously known as Regents College.

TESC never responded to my inquiries in any reasonable fashion. COSC only offered a General Education degree. Regents was quite helpful.

    Hey, Mikemayes!

No, I think that Excelsior College will not survive. Yes, I think that it will not survive, but I am specifically referring to Excelsior College, its current name. I have the impression that this college will change its name again within five years for reasons that have been extensively discussed here.

    My best regards,
