    All,

I am planning to commence studying an MBA shortly.

My manager has just informed me that he would like to see a full justification/proposal, outlining the benefits to both me and my employer, and what my career plans are for the next 5 years, and how the MBA could complement this.

Have any of you completed such a justification?
If so I would really be interested in seeing a copy. Please send me a private message if you have anything.
Please also summarise any useful pointers on this thread for the benefit of all.

If anybody has any useful web links on this topic these would also be gratefully received.

I look forward to hearing from you all.

    Best regards,

    Dave C.

    Dave,

I don't have a copy of a full justification but some areas to explore:

Does you company employ audits/analysis? If so what recommendations are made? How does an MBA program directly address the findings/results and corrective action?

ROI-will an MBA program make you more knowledgeable, hence more efficient? Can you put a number on this efficiency.

Does your company do proposals for contract work? Are resumes a requirement for these proposals? How would an MBA in the mix look?

Develop a business case using the above or other parameters; including (but not limited to) operations management, personnel management, currency of on board skillsets vice what the MBA would add, any restructuring of personnel or duties where the MBA program would lend itself.

Any corporate policies regarding maintaining training or skills?

Any safety or compliance issues not currently covered that the MBA program will cover?

Any potential retirements or personnel transitions in management where an MBA (combined with the five year look) would make you a desireable or preferred successor?

What is the human capital plan for your organization? How does the MBA fit?

Your career plans might include mentoring of younger managers. How would the MBA fit into this area.

I could go on for a few more but hopefully these points will give you some ideas to work on.

    Good luck,

    Kevin
