Is there an accredited Doctorate Degree Program available out there without a Masters degree requirement/prerequisite?

I am interested in a Social Science Doctorate Degree.

Many Doctoral programs will admit people without a Master's, typically into a combined program, in which the Master's is issued when coursework is completed and/or prelim exams passed, and the Doctorate when the dissertation is done and defended. My wife did this at Vanderbilt, but could have done the same thing at the other dozen-or-so schools to which she applied. Indeed, she did have a Master's (DL one from Dominguez Hills) but most or perhaps all the schools still wanted her to do the combined Master's-Doctorate program. (So now she has two MA's -- thus MAMA).

This topic has been discussed here at various times -- but I'm uncertain as to how to search for it.

Thank you, Mr. Bear, for your rapid response. Does anyone know of a Doctorate Degree Program that is through Distance Learning?

Most doctorate programs don't require that one have a Masters as a prereq.--in fact, I think the overwhelming majority. That's the most common way to do it.

You might get a Masters on your way to a PhD by taking an oral exam, but for many who are going for a PhD, it's not really a consideration. Often times, the Masters is available for those who decide, after finishing the coursework for the PhD--or nearly so--that they really don't want to toss away another 2-4 years of their life working on a dissertation, so they leave with a Masters in hand. That's what my wife did in Mathematics.
