Are there any new or current students at Taft posting here? I would enjoy a conversation about your experiences so far. I just started this month.

My blog has a little bit of stuff you may not find here on degreeinfo. Of course, this is your first stop...I would definitely ask advice here; I sure did.

Stop by and visit, write a comment or two so I know someone is listening to me yell at the world. I don't have ads or anything. It isn't much but it is a place that I write my thoughts on the subject and I go onto tangents quite a bit.

    This is wonderful!

Studying law by D/L is a major challenge even for me with my traditional ABA J.D. and 18 years of practice. Your blog will inspire others to take up the challenge and keep after it until it is done!

Taft is a good, conservative choice, I think.

Let us know from time to time how it's all going!

I particularly liked your reference to "Slightly pompous over-educated fools niggling...on DegreeInfo.com."

You forgot the additional "Hee-hee. I called them "slightly" pompous. Snicker." part.

Oh, and don't forget to add "sensitive".

I meant nothing by it. Sometimes I have days when I despise everyone whether they deserve it or not. Feel free to insult me on my blog :D

Yes, and I just want to say that your history of comments on this subject on degreeinfo.com is particularly helpful and insightful.

I hope you are not offended by my positions on the ABA or my references to degreeinfo on my blog.

I am hoping that the _idea_ of doing law via DL is more intimidating and difficult than the execution ;)

No, of course not. I've said nasty things about the ABA many times in the past, myself.

Nevertheless, I (re)joined that august organization myself this morning. Why?

There have been a series of legal positions taken by this government with which I cannot agree. The most recent actions of Congress to indirectly deprive poor people even of pro bono bankruptcy representation is an example. Another example is the prohibition against class action suits in state court.

We are told that this is to stop frivolous lawsuits...this is nonsense. Frivolous suits get dismissed early on and where there's an award of significant damages, a JURY of ordinary people have decided that the suit is NOT frivolous.

No, the pattern is clear. The system is to be rigged to the benefit of the rich and powerful and against ordinary Americans.

The ABA is at the moment the only really strong organization speaking out for the rule of law and access to the Courts for all, not just the wealthy and powerful. Thus, if I want my professional and civic concerns heard, I must support it.

    In regard to Taft...

Someone very close to me was considering a DL California Bar qualifying JD program last year. Her first choice was Taft, because she felt it was one of two programs that best suited her needs while providing a quality law program. However, she ended up enrolling and studying through NWCU. The reason she enrolled with NWCU rather than Taft was due to the lower cost. Her employer was willing to reimburse only part of her educational expenses, and NWCU (much like Taft) has a solid reputation among DL California Bar programs.

That said…I think that Taft is an excellent choice if you are unable to attend an ABA school, and provided that a non-ABA California Bar qualifying JD program will suit what you believe to be your future needs. From all accounts that I’ve read, Taft is a very good school with a good track-record.

I also commend you on your choice to pursue the study of law via DL. From what I’ve witnessed, the DL study of law in preparation for professional law licensure can be quite challenging and takes considerable dedication.

Please keep us updated. I hope to attend Taft as well. My plans are to finish up my Excelsior AS & BS by May 2006 and Enroll in Taft by the end of '06. I will be very interested to hear (or read) about your experience.
