    Hello everyone,

I need some help in finding a school where I can transfer my 26 unused doctoral credits. Some years ago, I withdrew from an Interdiciplinary PhD program I was pursuing at a State university and I wonder if I still have a chance of using those credits.

Besides, Capella, Walden, and Northcentral, Does anyone know of any other flexible but cheap online (or short-residence) research U.S. university that may accept those credits?

    Thanks,

Typically universities at the doctoral level will not transfer credits over seven years old and then they usually will only accept 6-12 hours.

Saybrook Graduate School in California used to have a doctoral completion program for those who were ABD (all but dissertation). When I last visited their site, they had some information on their admissions page. Saybrook is not cheap. I really don't know of any cheap and flexible research doctorate programs via DL, but I know of a few expensive ones (like Union Instiute and University). If your field is educational administration/leadership, then University of Nebraska-Lincoln is likely the least expensive doctoral program available via DL.

Many doctoral programs have considerable latitude over acceptance of credits into theri programs. Some of the factors involved are whether the courses that you take are the same as those required by the program and how old they are.

I transferred several credits (quantitative research, qualitative research, two statistics courses, evaluation, learning theories, and instructional design) from one doctoral program to another. Since these courses were required for both programs, they were accepted. In fact, I was accepted into a few different doctoral programs, all of which indicated that they would accepted most, if not all of my previous doctoral credits.

Unfortunately, it is difficult to assess how much credit will transfer into a doctoral program without actually contacting the department. It took me a couple of years to find the right program for me. Maybe some folks here on Degreeinfo can speed up the process for you.

P.S. My doctoral program was brick & mortar, not DL, so it would likely not be a good choice for you, unless you live in Southern California.
