  1. Hello,

Are there any quality DETC Master's Degrees in Accounting. I want to use the program to prepare for the CPA Exam. Thanks for your input.

Hi - many (perhaps all) of the State Boards of Accountancy list regional accreditation as a requirement for the masters to be used to meet the education requirement so I don't think you will see a masters in accounting from a DETC school for a while. There are some DETC schools with courses approved for continuing education credit so it's possible there could be a change but I don't think anything will happen without a challenge to the status quo.

Generally speaking, Mary is right about RA being a requirement to prepare for the CPA exam. If you are looking to be licensed as a CPA in your home state as a public accountant, I would recommend contacting your state board of accountancy to see what their requirements are.

However, if you are just looking to write the CPA exam, you can apply to write it in another state with more relaxed requirements. I am not an expert in how the CPA and the state boards of accountancy work, so you should talk to someone at your state board of accountancy.

FYI, I am a Chartered Accountant from Canada and am seriously considering writing the IQEX exam for people with foreign accounting designations to obtain the CPA.

    Good luck!
